I looked at that Motive bleeder and they want $75, plus another $15 for the catch can! I think I'll go see if China Freight has something similar. It's a freaking pump up bug sprayer with an adapter cap is all.

Save your cash on the motive bleeder. Invite a friend for a beer, have him, her or shim help. Loosen the bleeder, apply a smooth pump to the brake pedal all the down, tighten the bleeder release pedal pressure allow it to come all the way to the top and then repeat. I bought a $10 kit from O Rielly with a check valve and it worked perfectly.

For reference..Start at 1:40min end at 5:30min.. Best Brembo brake bleed vid I found.

Thanks again.... WHY does the Brembo bleeders face UP instead of DOWN.......it would be so much cleaner facing down.

They face up because air floats and you're supposed to bleed out all the air. Of course you don't need to bleed them because you don't want to get brake fluid on those painted calipers.

Hmm....never thought of that! I was going to hook up the brake lines and flip them over but still allow them to "bite" on the rotors so they'd face downward. Guess that's not such a good idea now.:argh:

I have a feeling the paint is not going to go well with even the SLIGHTEST of brake fluid. I may be taking these back of and heading to the powdercoater.

What if I coated the area around the bleeder with Vaseline or something so if/when the brake fluid comes in contact with the caliper the vaseline would protect it a little better, then I could wipe it off.

Think that would work or would the Vaseline trap the fluid and make it more likely to create a corrosive state??

I'm stressin...............the calipers came out perfect and I don't want them streaked or marred.

Remember the part a few days ago when I asked you if the paint was brake fluid resistant? That wasn't important.

I've got brake fluid on painted surfaces before. Haven't had any damage from it as long as I wiped it off within a few minutes or so. The tube idea is the best way to avoid the mess but if he's really that worried maybe he could cover them up with some blue painters tape.

I've used the Motive bleeder on my Bullitt (which has painted calipers) and had no paint damage. I zip tied the clear rubber tubing to the bleeder to prevent leaking and hurried up and wiped off any fluid that remained when I pulled the hose off. Be very careful to get the cap of the Motive bleeder very tight on the reservoir. If you don't it'll leak and make a mess in the engine compartment.

Darren I hope you didn't decide to have them power coated because your worried of fluid spilling onto the hats.

I just changed the front calipers on my DD this weekend and had to bleed the whole system. A few helpful tips:

1) Have at least a quart of brake fluid - bleeding the brakes and filling up two new calipers takes a lot of fluid.

2) Use a two foot section of clear PVC tubing over the bleeder nipple so you can drain the fluid into a catch can. The clear tubing lets you see the bubbles as you bleed each brake.

3) Withdraw the caliper all the way prior to installing the pads, and fill it with fluid the best you can. This will lessen the amount of bleeding you have to do.

4) For me, I had to bleed the whole system twice. After the first go-round, I checked them and was still getting air bubbles.

Good luck!

Yes, you read that right.
Darren's calipers are actually more in danger of being damaged by filling the fluid than actually being used for stopping the car.

Use a bathtub stopper from Home Depot. Drill a hole and silicone the hose into it.
