Hey all! I been researching for a while now and trying different things throughout to fix some minor issues with my car.

Currently my car will say my gas cap is open . I went ahead and changed out the gas cap with an oem one cleared all and any codes and it still shows up any other ideas? Maybe try a junk yard gas cap to fix the issue ? Or I bought some how a faulty one? The gasket in it is fine.

Also I keep get a trunk ajar on my dash. No loose wires, trunk is closed when I check and nothing is Hitting it to make it seem like it could set off any error. It is more of a pain to hear my car beep then it is a real issue. Just wondering if anyone has had similar issues or tips to try out that I haven’t yet .

Thanks a lot!

As far as your trunk I believe the sensor is built into the latch so you will probably need a new latch. I guess you could figure out if it's a closed or open circuit and wire it accordingly to bypass the sensor.

Not much help here, but I think you have two separate issues.
The pcm sends the gascap signal to the dash
The sjb sends the trunk ajar signal to the dash.

How does your car tell you your gas cap is open???
You don't know there's a MIL for Gas Cap?

Not that color, but that's the basic MIL for gas cap...

The others also get a message on the screen to check the gas cap...

Maybe I’ll look into getting a new latch now knowing that. Thanks for the info! Appreciate it !

I don't think I've ever seen that on my car. Interesting.

So what does it have? The fuel door with a seal on it? Or, you're
running around with a wide open fill neck?

2010 and up mustangs....(and also Fusions) don't have a gas cap.... just the normal fuel door.
Partway down the pipe, is a spring loaded cutoff valve. You can't siphon from it. You also can't fill it with a jerry can. Ford provides a 10" long plastic tube thingy, in with the spare tire, if you have to fill via a jerry can.

I have seen some fuel doors with a rubber like cap on it, so when you close the door, the
fill opening is sealed...

When my 2013 gave the "gas cap" notification it turned out to be an emissions sensor.

Similar scenario, I have a fuel cap mil warning on my capless 2011/14, the actual IDS code when I dug into it is for a "small evap leak" P04xy something or other. After clearing it, it only sets again after I WOT, which is usually within 60' or so of clearing the code... :D So I live with it. One day I'll triple check the hoses.

Hinted on here, but to go further . . .

The system periodically does a pressure check using the EVAP. A lack of pressure is often a loose or faulty gas cap, so it is not unusual to get a gas cap MIL even though the cap is fine.

If that is the case, I would look to the EVAP. If no apparent leaks, you can pick up the entire EVAP contraption for a reasonable amount of money. It is located under the trunk and is not a difficult swap.

My '08 GT doesn't seem to have either the icon or the message.

Norm
My '08, as soon as I start it, it illuminates for a few seconds with the
wrench, and the other lights that normally go out. I suppose the
GT doesn't have it, but there is supposed to be a warning of some sort.

GT - The sequence of the system check report and how it appears in the
message center is as follows:

1. OIL PRESSURE
2. CHARGING SYSTEM
3. DRIVER DOOR
4. PASSENGER DOOR
5. TRUNK
6. SECURITY SYSTEM (if equipped)
7. BRAKE SYSTEM
8. ETC SYSTEM
9. TRAC CONTROL (if equipped)
10. FUEL CAP
11. FUEL LEVEL
12. MILES TO EMPTY

CHECK FUEL CAP. Displayed when the fuel filler cap is not properly
installed. Check the fuel filler cap for proper installation. Refer to Fuel
filler cap in the Maintenance and Specifications chapter.
