Plan on starting a fresh build to handle higher power than the stock 3v internals. Looking for a block now, as to keep car on the road. My main question is what are the main differences between the 2v blocks and 3v blocks. Haven't been able to locate solid answers, except for motor mount positions. Also have only been able to find mid 2000s 4.6 2v blocks, all have been romeo. Not much else. Thanks for all the advice and heads up on this build

The blocks are pretty much all physically the same except for some small differences. Whats wrong with using a romeo block? The only downside is that its iron but it would be able to hold up to high hp better but all mod blocks can handle anything you throw at them. Theres a reason ford used iron gt blocks in the terminators. The motor mount location being different isnt true, they have different mounts but they can be swapped. There is no provision for a knock sensor on those blocks.

Well the mounts are very different. I have one. An adaptor plate is necessary.

I have my opinion but there are gents on here with ten times more knowledge and experience.

I stand corrected about the mounts being different, sorry. Like stkjock said do a search, it'd be much easier to find all the info youre looking for that way. If you need any clarification or have any more questions about a combo post here.

The best answer I can give is that it depends. 2v blocks will be iron and Romeo like you mentioned. Most 3v and 4v blocks will be aluminum, WAP, and stronger. However, the Terminator blocks were iron.

I've built motors with a variety of 4.6 mod blocks. IMO they will all work but I'd prefer aluminum over iron. AFAIK all of the aluminum blocks will work without motor mount adapters (except for Teksid) while the iron blocks need adapters.

Are there any blocks you have been looking at? It's a whole lot easier to confirm or deny if you have a specific block to examine.

Another thing to consider is a Big Bore Boss block from FRPP. They cost a little more and require the deck to be finished along with the bore but offer a 3.700" bore. This means 304 cubic inches with a stock crank. They do need motor mount adapters to work with a 3v but that's about it. The last time I looked they were $1210 from Tasca and if you ordered $1500 worth of parts shipping was free. Once you add in the Big Bore head changing kit you are at the $1500 threshold.
