Exhaust Thingy - WTF Is It ?

2006 4.0L V-6 auto trans single exhaust...This thingy is on the left branch of the pipe, aft of the catcons, before the muffler/resonators. Nothing connected to it, no leads or attachments on it. It's welded to the pipe.

What is it??? What does it do??? Why is it there???

I'm thinking of a new SS catback system...

Looks like a counter weight for vibration.

That's exactly what it is...there to reduce NVH. If I recall correctly, there is also one attached to the OE V6 muffler. I have a Magnaflow X-pipe and axle-back mufflers, eliminating both dampers, and I have no issues with vibes/resonance.
