I had the same experience when I tried to put black cobra stripes on my GT. Scratched and wrinkled, I just pealed them off and will go without.

That’s about where mine is at , fading. Been using Meguires black restore on it. Helps for a little while but not more than a week or so.
Looks great, any close ups of the panel? I've wrapped interior panels before, even a center console, so when a buddy asked if I could help him wrap his roof, I figured I had this. NOPE. Definitely not the same. Lots of swearing later we got it done alright, but there were a few blemishes where we overstretched it, maybe got too close with the heat gun. I see it kinda like drywall mudding -- yeah you can do it yourself and in principle it should be straightforward. But there's a real technique to it and sometimes your sanity is worth the price of paying a pro to get it done right the first time
Exactly my experience and analogy! I too have successfully wrapped the center console, center stack panel, headlight switch panel and the window switch panels, but those are mostly flat (not to mention smaller), which is a LOT easier! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
It really depends on the vinyl. tinybot 6d carbon is hard to stretch, probably any of the carbon fiber wraps are harder. Gloss 3m or avery is easy! I'm surprised they didn't remove your emblem. I removed mine and wrapped it in tinybot 6d carbon. the hardest part was lining up the top. Trying to do it with the emblem on is crazy. Now i want to fill the holes and probably the key hole with bondo and redo it.
Removing the emblem won’t help. There’s still a raised area on the panel itself so I would need to buy a different panel to make it flat. Besides, the only way to remove the emblem is from behind and removing the panel to do so results in many broken fixation clips (BTDT). Ford doesn’t really design this panel for removal unless you’re replacing with new. In addition, once the panel is removed, there’s still a raised section of the metal trunk lid underneath that corresponds to the emblem location. You’d have to go another step and cut out that section from the metal lid too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
I forget ford got stupid with the rear deck lids after 09. I really don't understand why they felt a raised deck lid under the emblem was necessary.
Looks good OP! not to high jack but I got a spare decklid off of offer up super cheap, I welded the trunk key and emblem holes as well as the third brake light, debating on to paint it or wrap it. fun little project to keep my mind occupied getting over a knee injury
Few months late w/ my reply, but that's a great way/option for refinishing the rear of car. Nice touch & I'm same as OP - wouldn't end well if there were flaws. I'm a perfectionist and any little bubble/line/mis-alignment comes with tantrum, 4-letter barrage & throwing.
