Thanksgiving related story.....
Back in 83, in early December, my dad began having terrible pains in his lower back. So bad he ended up admitted to the hospital.
The doctors put him on pain medicine and sedatives because of the intense pain.
They weren't finding anything obvious so they ordered a bunch of x-rays. When they came back, the doctors asked him when he had been shot! He told them never. They showed him the x-rays that clearly showed a small round metallic object in his abdomen. Not believing him they rolled him this way and that looking for signs of a healed entry wound. Nothing, no scars, old or new.
No one could figure it out. Or what to do.
Given the pain and the object, surgery seemed to be the obvious plan.
Finally, after a couple days, someone had the bright idea to ask him what he ate for Thanksgiving.
Turkey, of course, at my grandparents on my mom's side. A turkey my grandpa shot. More x-rays. Sure enough, the metal object had moved 6" downward and a few days later it was gone. With no change in the back pain.
It was decided they were unconnected and somehow my dad had swallowed a pellet from the turkey without knowing it.
The backpain? That turned out to be sciatic and disk related from sitting on his overly thick wallet in his work truck everyday causing a severe misalignment.
They were very helpful in thinning out the wallet!
