Just bought some GT500 mufflers off a guy. Are these more or less the same as GT mufflers?

So I found some mufflers on Marketplace, I thought they were just regular GT mufflers with some tips welded on but when I went to pick them up I found out they were '07-09 GT500 mufflers, part number F1-8143-R. I currently have OEM GT mufflers on my car, if I swap them out for these will they sound the same?

You wouldn't think they'd make GT500 mufflers and make the same muffler for the GT sound wise. But then again I'm not a bean counter.

The 07 Shelby used a lot of things from the Ford parts bin. The mufflers are the same as those found on the GT with an automatic, just different tips.

You are correct for the 2012. Ford started using a Shelby specific muffler in the 2010 model year.

But the OP asked about 2007-2009 mufflers. And for 2007-09 Ford simply went to the parts bin and used the same muffler as found on a GT with an automatic transmission for the Shelby. Just as they used the V6 spoiler on the 2007 and maybe 2008.

I found out they were '07-09 GT500

So I noticed "Automatic GT" mufflers are specified here, were the mufflers different between manual and auto GT's?

I also noticed the GT500 mufflers don't neck down to 2 1/4" inside the muffler inlet/outlet like my 2005 GT mufflers do...or maybe they fixed that in 2007, I dunno.

Anyway thanks for the info! Planning to swap these onto my car because the factor GT tips are pretty boring. I like the 4" GT500 tips.

Yes, there were different mufflers for automatic and manual GT's in 2005-2009. The automatic are a little quieter.

OK I put these mufflers on my car over the weekend and holy shit they are loud! :Big Laugh: Honestly sounds incredible, I had wanted a little more sound over the OEM mufflers but not the drone and these are perfect. I need to get a video. I'm not sure what the difference is since they look identical to my OE mufflers but I'm keeping these for sure.

Hmmmmm. I'm guessing you guys are talking about the GT500. Not the Shelby GT. My 2007 Sheby GT came with a different exhaust from the cat’s back. X-pipe to mid-pipe resonators to no mufflers after axle. That would have all been installed in Las Vegas. Of course the GT500's were not built by Shelby.

I thought the Shelby GT came with the same mufflers as the Bullitt?

Part number on the muffler comes up as '07-09 GT500 muffler. There was also an aluminum band around the end where they clamp on that said SVT.
Anyway, I took a short video after work- sorry this video is pretty much audio only because I aimed the camera wrong, but it's for the sound anyway.

The guy I bought these from said they had been sitting outside for awhile (they had a mildewy smell), so if these have packing in them it must be all matted down or something, I dunno. What I do know is this is the favorite axle back I've had on this car yet. Sounds great, no drone except a little at 2000 RPM in 5th gear.

Probably shipped from Ford that way. So much of the GT's was a la carte, it's hard to say what is and isn't.

It was mentioned that Ford used the V6 rear spoiler on the ‘07 GT500 which is incorrect, my ‘07 has the GT500 spoiler used on the 2007 and 2008 models. Ford changed the rear spoiler on the V6 in 2007 but the only Shelby it ended up on was the 2007 Black and Yellow Terilingua V6 that Shelby came out with that was a throw back to their late 60’s Terlingua cars,
