Hey everyone, thanks for reading. I am building a brand new motor from scratch and want to know what you guys think AND why whether i should keep the VCT or Lockout the cams. My goal is 1200hp regardless of what i decide i will be around that power level. This will be an 8 second track car 4 weekends a year, and a weekend go out for dinner with the wife car. NOT a daily.

WHERE IM AT:
texas speed built and sleeved gen 3 short block
headgames ported f150 gen 1 heads w/ GSC components (waiting to see what im gonna do about cams)
running the stock gen 1 PCM/ECU
i haven't decided on a turbo or SC yet.

I up to the timing components. I see the MMR drag pro kit that has everything, and i also see the gen 1 coyote ford VCT kit.

I guess what im asking is can the OEM VCT system handle 1200hp given a few upgrades like the secondary chain and tensioners etc..?

ill take any recommendations you guys have, insight or input. If you were me, what would you do. thank you.

A lot of cams I’m finding require the cams to be locked out.
I would talk to my engine builder or tuner; it would be surprising if Boss cams couldn't get the job done while retaining VCT. I want to say your stock cams are capable of it, but am not 100% how hard you would have to lean on the engine to get there.
Turbo is going to be the way to go here.
