If you do the magnetic box with a key in it trick, Have a non-ignition key made. In other words have a regular key made that will only unlock the door. Without the coded chip feature. Think of it as a dumb key. It won't start the car, but will get you into it.

Also, everyone should be using the key in the door lock at least once or twice a month and not using the FOB 100% of the time. Why? Because the lock cylinder will freeze up and not function if it isn't used. See it all the time on trunks and pickup tailgates.

I always use the key when unlocking the door and also lock the door manually rather than with the key fob.. It also saves the battery from discharging by de-activating the active alarm system's incline sensors..

Carry the spare in ur left pocket..and main key in ur right pocket. If the battery in the FOB goes dead, you will be able to unlock the driver's side door, but you will not be able to start the engine. Another reason to carry a spare key /fob..with good batteries.

goddamn it how is this FUCKING TECH.

I might be super cranky today, but fuck it. this isn't fucking tech. get that through. jesus fucking Christ.

I left it there originally as I thought there might be mechanical solutions to the issue. I see the thread has evolved differently.

Are you seriously that upset about this thread not being "tech"?

Around here TECH is really tech. This is not really TECH by the board definition. But it's moot since the thread got moved anyway.

It may not seem like it now, but this forum was built on the strength of our tech forums. So even as the forum ages and shrinks, the old timers still cling to the roots of our traditions. The guys who have come along just recently never got a chance to experience the forum at its peak.

smash insulator off of 6011 or 7018 3/16" welding rod, grind end at 30 degrees to form point, insert between driver's door glass and weatherstripping and gently stick into door lock pin, push upwards.
