Hello everyone, just joined as I found some old threads on here and figured this would be the right place to ask S197 related questions.
I have a 2014 GT500 that has a bent passenger axle from new. I recently purchased the car and need to find either a new passenger axle that is similar enough to the OEM axle or replace both of them. The car only has 11k miles so Im fine replacing just the one side and saving some money.
The issue Im seeing is that some manufacturers are using the wrong length axles for some reason. It seems like Moser and Dorman have the correct length. Ten Factory, SR Performance, Alloy USA, all have the lengths incorrect (at least from what I can tell). The weird thing is you will see reviews stating those axles fit fine and then reviews/thread posts saying there are issues with the lengths.
I originally was going to just replace the axle with a Dorman, but I dont feel great using a Dorman axle as I dont know the quality or what grade steel they are using. Ive seen reports of Dormans failing shortly after being installed due to the bearing journals not being hardened enough.
Moser seems to be the way to go, however the issue I have with them is the pilot is short so now the wheels will no longer be hub-centric. I've ran mosers on my old 2002 GT and didnt have issues with them, but if I ever run a drag wheel that is hub-centric, I'll be SOL.
I found Dutchman axles and they have replacement axles for our cars, with the right lengths, and are willing to make custom modifications to them. So I can have them make a longer pilot that catches the rotor and wheel like OEM.
Anyone here that can chime in on what axles are recommended or if you have any experience with the brands Ive listed above.
EDIT: I just called Dutchman and they need a few dimensions related to the abs tone ring surfaces from a stock axle and that will be an additional cost from the $330 to have that machined on the axle. The longer pilot is another charge (cant remember how much) to have machined longer as well.
I'll probably just go with Mosers unless someone has had some good experiences with other brands.
