Installing new pads opened the box and what do ya know there’s this little defect.
Not sure if the clamping force would straighten it out, should I try tapping it flush with a hammer. Any other thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Ps. I’m trying to get this job done tonight lol. If I should return them I will but if it’s not gonna be an issue I’d like to use them, I just have no idea if it is okay to use. I have a cars and coffee in the morning, of course something like this happens.

If the parts house was just a few minutes away, I would exchange them. If online, I would use them. I don't see any issue really. If your were tracking the car and just dropped some coin on good pads, then yeah, get them exchanged.

Either tap it flat with a hammer or grind off the ridge with a grinder. Then go about your business and forget about it. The important part is that the caliper sits flat on the back of the pad.

Agreed, see that as very superficial. No damage to pad and looks like automated riveter was hanging up? Note anti-rattle springs which is good though.

Slide it in the caliper and see where the defect sits. It's not like the the pistons cover the whole backing plate.
