Hey all, Nice to meet you guys, I'm looking to get an S197 Mustang, Criteria is v8 & Manual. Looking at the older motors but considering the 5.0 if I can get one at a good price. of the price range but not sure what the right move is. Hope I have more to say in the near future! Plan is to daily + autox and hillclimb the car.
I might look at something with the newer Coyote 5.0 engine. Seem to have more problems with the former versions, but they have quirks too. The most prevalent I can see is the mystery ticking at idle speeds. The Ford elixir additive to oil might help (TB out for this). Actually read here somewheres that the cam phasers are culprits, I can’t say but worth looking into. Something as this, haven’t tore mine apart yet or sensors?:

$25k gets you a Kenne Bell 2.8L on built motor pushing 600 whp with a Tremec 6 speed, torsen rear, AST coilovers and a lot more. I've dominated the past 3 years of high speed autox around here. Race tires stack higher than the roof, Hoosier A7s, 335/30-18 on 12" rears and 315/30-18 on 11" front. Looks stockish on the outside. Full stock interior. Stock like driveability, until you get on the gas.
