I have a long tubes with an h-pipe with hi-flow cats and still cannot pass. I have the non-foulers from brenspeed i am going to put on tomorrow. Hopefully i will not get a CEL after 100-200 miles. This shit is a damn headache! If this doesn't work i am not sure what i will be able to do. I can't throw the stock h-pipe on because i have long tubes. Suggestions??

I've heard the ones from Brenspeed are kinda iffy. They either dont restrict the flow enough or they dont pull the o2 sensor out far enough. I read guys saying after about 3 months or so the CEL comes on.

If this doesn't work i am not sure what else can be done. I hear a lot of people running O/R pipes and hi-flow cats so how is everyone else passing?

This would only reduce the occurrence of the P0420 and P0430 codes.
If you're getting other codes, this will not solve your issue.

There is an electrical/circuit modification alternative, posted elsewhere, to use a resistor and capacitor inline, wired up properly of course, with each rear O2 sensor. if these don't work for you, try the circuit modification.

When I used to get the codes, they would come on after 3-5 driving cycles. So I'd reset the PCM ("Clear DTCs" using handheld tuner or disconnect battery for 20+ mins), run the car normally to get one drive cycle in, leave the car overnight, then drive 15-20 minutes to the inspection station as the second drive cycle, and it would pass, every time. Then it didnt matter if in another driver cycle or two or three if the CEL would come back on for a P0420, because it had already passed!

Not to rain on anyone's parade, this is a really old trick. My point being that if you get pulled over, it's a dead giveaway that you're not running cats (which is a federal offense).

For those of you trying this out, you can try one non-fouler first, just drill it out and be careful not to chew up the threads. A lot of the time, one does the trick and is an easier fitment since it doesn't shift the O2 sensor out as much.

If that doesn't work, you can stack the second one on. Just a quick tip if someone runs into some fitment issues.

Sometimes you can find some on eBay that are angled as well and that helps fitment. Also know that if you space it out too far from the exhaust stream, you can get a MIL code as well.

A hint as to where please....

Has anyone ever heard of someone getting empounded for this? I am in a mustang club where I live and a few cops started the group. All of them have o/r mid pipes. I'm not too worried here!

I cruised with a few guys with O/R mid pipes before I got mine. They had been using them for 5+ years and I asked if they got any trouble for it. Their response was simply don't drive like an idiot, and you wont get pulled over. I've driven by cops, next to cops, in front of cops, etc and have yet to get in trouble.

wonder why some work and some dont..with the Z most places that make test pipes offer the pipes with the defoulers so u dont have to worry about it, i have yet to see a place that offers the stang midpipes to do something like that...wonder y that is

First off this is an old trick and people have been doing it for years. It won't always work and for most people it will work for a while, then throw a code, then work again. A lot of the time it will work long enough for you to pass inspection though.

That said, it is illegal for most people (but I don't think you're going to do federal time) and can get a shop in a lot of trouble for doing it for people. I don't know of anyone who has actually gotten arrested, car impounded, or anything serious for running without cats

I agree. It varies and I'm a firm believer that no matter how much you modify your car against vehicle code statutes, cops will leave you alone unless you're doing something to attract unnecessary attention to yourself.

However, the fine for running no cats is pretty hefty. I'm not saying it's good or bad, just full disclosure so someone doesn't later get a surprise from Office Dickhead.

This is why I got high flow cats. They flow very close to O/R, the difference is negligible, but I still have cats so no one can say I don't. :) But I hear that since these cats (Kooks) flow so well I'd still need foulers anyway.

Luckily my state only does emissions in a few counties and I hope it stays that way. As long as I live in a non-emissions county I'm good. I could get this thing to pass but it would likely be annoying at first.

Speaking of cats, why dont you simply veld a piece of metal around the O/R pipe to make it look like cats so it passes the visiual inspection and have your car tuned properly so it passes the computerized inspection?

I think I will simply shape a couple metal around the piping to make them look like they are cats.

Last year I went thru all this BS, couldnt get the car to go to a ready status and pass. The guy I took it to was into cars, he knew my car is modded, Ive got Kooks LTs w/hi-flow cats and cams. Wouldnt pass. He told me (if I remember correctly) my car ran too good/clean, that they (TX) expect cars to run shitty. Told me to have my tuner make a tune just good enough to keep the car running. I did this, drove the car about 100 miles and it went to ready status and passed, loaded the original race tune back into the car right in the parking lot and drove away with my new sticker. Now Ive got a tune from BBR that as soon as I plug my reader into the car it shows ready green lights instantly, looks like theyve given me a tune that reports everything as good or turned off reporting or something, Ive got last years "inspection tune" just in case. Dont have to worry about it until March 2011.

when we're talking about emissions stuff, i'm sure shop owners would appreciate their names not being mentioned in public....just sayin', like a few posts above this one. that post should edited...anyone needing to know should be pm'd....
