Hey everyone... I know I've been gone a while, but life has been crazy. I recently got a "Coronavirus Special" on a new 2019 Mustang GT. The MSRP was $42k, and I was able to get it for $34k. I couldn't resist.

Anyway, the stereo is "functional", but an eyesore, and hard to use. Like all my vehicles, I intend to put some sort of Pioneer in it. After some comparison between models, I finally settled on the DMH-W4660NEX. When I went to Crutchfield to look up all the harnesses and other crap I'd need, I noticed it said "This does not fit your car".

Is there any reason why? I intended to use the Metra 99-5840CH dash kit, which says it works with double DIN stereos (the Pioneer page says the 4660 is a double DIN stereo that fits in a 4" opening). My guess is that the stereo won't fit the stock dash... and that's ok. I know I need to get something to adapt the dash for the stereo.

Also, does anyone happen to have a parts list to help me in ordering this?

Thanks!!

When I searched 2019, this kit came up even though it says for 2017. May want to call and confirm.

The Metra 99-5840CH is the one that Crutchfield gave me for my car, but that was before I had actually picked a stereo out (just looking at double din-sized ones). When you look at the 5838 you linked and the 5840 they gave me, they look almost identical.

- Don't need/want in-dash navigation, as I use Android Auto
- Larger screen (6.8" vs 6.2")
- All screen (no physical buttons)
- Capacitive screen (like a phone) vs resistive
- Wireless Android Auto (something I've been waiting a LONG time for)

Go here and select both radios, then hit "compare":

Flapjack those are all good reason and I guess it comes down to whats important to each individual. I did want indash NAV and I did want physical buttons. Also I use Apple so the wirless carplay was a big plus for me as for the screen the Capacitve screen vs the Resistive wasn't a big deal as I don't notice that much of a difference while I'm sure there are differances there not that noticed at least not to me likewise .6" of a difference in screens didn't make a world of difference either. Either way enjoy your new Pioneer.

Thanks, man. You are absolutely correct.... it comes down to what is important to each individual. To your point, I used to feel that physical buttons were important to me, and would never even consider a stereo without one. Specifically, it was channel scanning and volume that I used. However, in practice, with steering wheel controls in place, I almost never touch the physical buttons. As for the nav, I just feel it has become less and less accurate over the years. It seems that every time someone can't find my house, they're using an in-dash nav. If they're using phone navigation (eg: Google Maps, Waze, etc), they get there. In addition, the features that Waze (and now Google Maps) add over a basic in-dash nav are hard to argue with. It's especially helpful to know a cop has been reported up ahead when you drive a Mustang. ;)
