I just removed the driver side valve cover to take a look at the followers, no idea if I should change them to the latest revision.
I have only experience to look at camshafts without roller followers, from my stand point they look awful. Where do all this traces come from?

The followers have all some play, but seems to be normal. I used 5w30 oil. Around 50.000 mi driven.

Thanks!

Run your fingernail on those lobes and rollers. If it catches on a ridge you have an issue. If not, you can upgrade to the newer design follower but you should be good to go if everything is smooth.

Thanks, I just did this and everything feels smooth.
I'm still wondering how these stripes get into it. Looks like the rollers are not fully seated?

The discoloration is due to the contact poiint of the roller and cam only being so wide. What you are seing is th ereult of normal friction.

The dark area ist the contact patch of the roller, ok, I was more wondering about the bright trace inside of it, on several cam lobes.

Cams look as expected. Generally speaking, those shiny lines are normal and of no concern. Dull patches that look like fine orange peel, however, can be premature failure. I see a few dull spots, but I think that's just the angle/light. If it were mine I would tell the wife, "look honey, my cams have marks on them. They need to be replaced with these better ones that have more material on the lobes. They will last longer."

Hahaha, great, I like that.

I noticed the dull patches also, especially at the tip of the cam lobes at least there is no pitting. Haven't pulled the passenger side cover yet, too cold outside and have no heater in the garage. No sure if the changed direction of the oil passages in the followers has also something to do with it, it looks like the revised spray oil directly on the roll.
