73 mm Ported Throttle Body. This seems like it might be a good alternative to the BBK 70 mm. I haven't tried it, but I wanted to make sure others know about this option.

If I understand everything correctly, stock is 65mm correct? The guy is porting out a 65mm to 73mm? No way there is 7mm of material on a stock throttle body to port out. If am wrong I will be shocked there is that much material on a stock TB

If you're skeptical, as one always should be, click on the link and ask the seller yourself.

Nope. 73 - 65 = 8mm. 8mm / 2 = 4.0 mm of material being cut. It's paper thin wall thickness on top side...after the porting.

4.0 mm = 0.15748 inches have been removed. ( 5/32" = .15625" )

From their site. PROFESSIONALLY HAND PORTED TO
73mm WITH A MODIFIED THROTTLE SHAFT
THAT REMOVES AN ADDITIONAL 4mm OF
MATERIAL.

.....................................................................................................................................................

2 x 4mm = 8mm. 73-8 = 65mm. 65mm is oem TB.

73/65 = 1.123

1.123 x 1.123 = 1.26

New ported TB will flow 26% more air.

They would have also have to replace the butterfly disc... with a bigger diameter unit.

Now whether the CAI, tubing, air filter, etc, will also handle an additional 26% more air is another matter. The 'improved throttle response' arises cuz it will flow more air for a given rotation of the butterfly. Dunno if you will achieve more hp at top end or not.

Typ bigger TB's on a NA 4.6L buy you..nothing..and a tiny improvement when a PD blower used.

EG: 62 /55 = 1.12727

1.12727 x 1.12727 = 1.27

Twin 62mm TB flows 27% more air.. vs the oem twin 55mm TB.

Doesn't Ford Perf make a mono-blade that would give you the most are/volume/flow?

Mono blades are typ used for drag racing. Hard to set up for good idle. Barely open, it flows too much air. I would not mess with a mono blade for a DD V8. And his is a V6.

Well, A Mono-blade sounds like it could cause some serious, and quite expensive issues with an engine... and a lot of fun to try.

I have purchased the mono-blade for a 5.0 with an adapter plate to fit my 4.6 with the FP intake manifold. I also have twin turbos, fuel pump, fuel rails, injectors, shorties, and some other goodies to go along with it. I haven't gotten to the install. Obvious all of it will need special tuning. Looking for a reliable, experienced mechanic shop on Long Island.

This guy is a riot. Above is his take on mono blade vs twin 55/ 60 /65/67/ 72 etc. He worked for himself as a tuner, then for Lund, then VMP, now he's back working for Lund as a tuner. He has a TON of video's, the latet is today, abt E85.

It must be a platform thing. Probably has to do with the drive by wire deal. I have a mono-blade on my 04. Idle is rock steady and part throttle is no issue. I can creep through traffic just as easily as going WOT. But I have the separate IAC motor that accounts for idle and the first part of tip in.
