I’m thinking about ditching my Alpine radio and going with an android if I can get one that looks like this. I’m assuming this is an android in the first pic? What size? I’m wanting to add a tpms and obd2 Bluetooth readouts to my deck. Dunno if the Alpine 670 can do that thru apps. All the tpms I’m seeing say “works with android radio” but can it work on alpine with apps? What’s the biggest screen you can fit in a 2006 GT? Pics of me playing with sons old stereo

I’m sure someone with more knowledge will answer but it looks like a standard double DIN sized headunit with an adapter plate to make it fit the console. I used a similar, albeit way cheaper, setup in my car. Have a look on Crutchfield, their site is good at giving you everything you need for install on an application basis.

The first one looks like an Android head unit, check out Dynavin. I want to say they're 9 or 10 inches. They're expensive but they are a whole panel replacement to get the bigger screen than the 7 inch you get with a double DIN radio like that Alpine.

Doing the Android unit, you can do a Bluetooth OBD-II adapter with the Torque App installed on the unit. On the Alpine, you might need to use a separate module, made by iDatalink but everything I've read say it's not compatible with the 05-06 Mustangs (just my luck too)

When I ordered the Alpine I thought it would work with iDatalink. I have a maestro RR in the closest. I actually already went thru some programming setups for a 2008. I was hoping Ford used the same software in those years so I could pull OBDII readings. I can send the 670 back and drop another $150 and get an Alpine 407….but I hate to do that not knowing if it’ll work!

Yeah the Dynavin’s are pricing. Not 100% sold on the look with the buttons at the bottom.

I've gone on iDatalink's website and tried to look up the 06 but it only lists 07 and up last time I checked. I have no idea what would've changed. If you can flash it for a 07 or 08 and still have it work then I might be picking up one myself.

Playing around on iDatalink's site, it doesn't look like the 670 supports the gauges, but the 407 does.

I think the big thing that changed was tire pressure sensors. Doing some searching yest I ran across a video that said tpms became mandatory on 2007+ vehicles. I always assumed it was bcz the 05-06’s didn’t have steering wheel controls…dunno if the 2007+’s came with steering wheel controls though…?

No sir the 670 doesn’t. I’m trying to get a usb tpms system to intergrade with my stereo. The 507 offers iDatalink, wireless CarPlay, and a 2nd usb port. I called Crutchfield yest to see if I could plug the usb from the tpms system into the extra usb on the Alpine 507 and it read it. They said “maybe”.

Wasn't there a change in the language used by ford? I seem to remember when looking at handheld tuners there was a difference between 05-06 and 07 and up. But I may be wrong.

It’s hard to word when I don’t know what I’m talking about lol but I’m wondering if the language was added to, hopefully not changed. I think it very well could’ve changed (that’s why I’m scared to drop the $350) but it confuses me how you can go to AM and order an 05-10 programmer and not have to specify year. I don’t think a guy with an 08 would want to buy a tuner from a guy that was purchased in 05 bcz it might not have all the features for an 08 but it might still do some stuff like read the OBDII…but dunno. Think the X4 will do from 96-20. iDatalink did tell me it was scary to compare a tuner to their Maestro though bcz a tuner might be capable of reading several languages. I can definitely see how there was an issue with tuners in 06-07 with the added options and the gt 500 coming out…..but is the base language still the same (rpm, speed, voltage, etc)? Say like intake pressure…does the 05-06 GT have a sensor for intake pressure, does the 07+? I can see the 07+ having one bcz the gt 500. Can I test that with my BDX on my 2006?

I have all the stuff to test the iDatalink questions. I installed my old Kenwood in my son’s Optima using the Maestro RR2 iDatalink. Just gotta pull allllllll that crap out again to test it!!

If anyone really wants to fry their brain or make me look stupid…..pleeease help me find an internal tpms system that works with an Alpine deck or thru Apple CarPlay. I’m even open to an android deck as long as it has front, rear, & sub pre-outs.

Yeah you'd think that being able to pull PIDs off of OBD-II would be the same as any other car, but who knows what level of communication the iDatalink would be trying to do with the car before getting to that point.

The thought's crossed my mind -- I've got a Maestro RR2 and a Pioneer 4400 NEX in my Tacoma that work, but I'd need a Mustang-specific harness to hook it up and see what happens. And I know that there were some wiring harness changes between '05, '06, etc. So I wonder how much of a PITA it would be.

Crutchfield does offer a harness though (2006 - 2016 Fords)

The guy who’s tuning my car said 2005+’s are Can based so anything that can read a 2007 should be able to do what I’m wanting but wasn’t 100% sure. I called iDatalink again and the guy was a total d#%$head but told me about the HRN-RR-SA1 harness for $16 that might be able to do what I’m wanting but wasn’t sure.

For OBDII readings I have a Maestro RR, HRN-RR-SA1, and iDatalink compatible Kenwood radio that I’m gonna try a test run on during Christmas break.

For steering wheel controls on the 2014 steering wheel swap I’m gonna use a PAC SWI-RC-1…it worked with the Kenwood before. I’m hoping to get the Meastro RR to do this but I dunno if it’ll work since there’s not a program for it.

I’ve gutted the stock stereo system (amps & speakers), have a whole new setup going in, not using the factory harness for anything. Nothing from my stereo system will be plugged into the factory harness.

If the old Kenwood will read the OBDII port I’ll prob buy an Alpine 507. I’m hoping to be able to use one of the usb ports to read a tpms system I’m wanting to install. I’d prefer to get an iDatalink Kenwood deck honestly, more bang for the buck IMO, but I like the look of the “gauges feature” on Alpine better.

Update….the iDatalink did work on my 2006. Gauges feature does work. Still working on steering wheel controls.

Parts I’m using:
Alpine ilx-507
IDatalink Maestro RR
IDatalink Maestro HRN-RR-SA1

Sweet, nice work! For steering wheel controls are you putting in a 2010+ steering wheel for the extra buttons?

I have a 2014 steering wheel in already. I had the controls working with a Kenwood deck and PAC-SW1 but haven’t been able to get the PAC to work with the Alpine yet. I found a Meastro universal kit today that I’m gonna call about but the iDatalink tech support has been ZERO help so far. PAC tech support has been awesome in the past so I’m hoping if iDatalink can’t figure it out, PAC can!!
