I wanted to follow up with this post, I would like to upgrade my brakes but really want to stick with my stock 18x8.5 Bullitt wheels...so if I get 6 or 7 mm spacers and extended studs, I will be able to retain the stock rims?
There's two measurements you have to worry about (radius & offset). Measure the inside diameter of the wheels and request members with 4 pot Brembos to provide a radius measurement from the center of the hub to the edge of the caliper. That should tell you whether they'll fit inside of your wheel or not. Then, since we don't know what your offset is (and inside spoke clearance) difficult to say what size spacer you'll need. If I get time I'll take some measurements and post 'em. I can tell you that 2011-2014 Brembo wheels (BR33-1007-BB) (19x9) w/42mm offsets do clear the Brembo calipers. I bought a set because I was tired of using spacers and feel the size (w/255/45/19's) was the best compromise for handling and mileage.
I sent a message to ghunt81 and he clarified that he was talking about a stock 19 in gt wheel from a 2015. I'll probably just go with a correct wheel spacing if I decide to upgrade to a bbk. Used to go to the track but realistically, that has happened in many years; therefore, don't think it might be worth the expense other than the bling.
I'm not gonna lie, I did it for the looks really...I wanted to upgrade to 19" wheels, and I thought man I want some nice calipers to look at, so I did the upgrade. Always snowballs like that! Honestly feels about the same and they look good, and it didn't cost that much, so why not.
In my case glad I did because they've saved me in at least one panic stop and weren't that expensive. Worthwhile upgrade in my opinion. Got mine from O'Reilly's already powder coated Gloss black. About $125/ea if I remember correctly. All said and done think I paid ~$425 for everything (Calipers, pads, backing plates, steel braided lines). Back brakes are stock. No front/rear bias issues to speak of.
The wheels is a factor for me. I have a 2008 mustang bullitt with the stock bullitt in the front (18x8.5 with a 255/45/r18 wheel) and after market but bullitt style rims in the back (18×10 with a 285/40/18) and I LOVE the look and size of my rims. My car is full bolt on, (cams headers and suspension) but I would like to complete the car with a bbk but keep the bullit style rims.
I have seen it done (my neighbor has a 2008 GT500) but I believe the rims were 20's. Not sure where he got them.
Ended up purchasing these rims, and got the calipers, rotors and pads through RockAuto for 390 shipped. For the brake lines, I'm thinking between the Power Stop braided steel or ford racing boss 302 brake lines....same price, what do you all think?
Brake lines - go w/steel braided. Less expansion/better feel. If the Ford lines are square where they connect to the Brembo's I don't believe those will fit (at least they didn't in my case.... someone feel free to correct me if you're using them w/Brembo's).
What do you mean by square? I just used regular GT front lines on mine, they bolted up to the Brembos with no issue.
These: Couldn't get mine to mount/seal properly with the Brembos so I ended up using steel braided lines with banjo ends which worked fine. 2nd pic...
I just looked back at what I ordered, I used 2013 GT front brake hoses but they are the same. I didn't have any problems mounting them at all.
You either need spacers or a wheel that has a +45 offset to clear the big brakes. I had chrome 18” bullet wheels and they didn’t clear.
One more time: Offset measurement does not guarantee caliper clearance or lack thereof. There are 45mm offset wheels that will clear the 14" Brembos (eg. stock GT500 wheels) and 45mm offset wheels that won't.
I recently ran into an issue with wheel clearance on big brakes as well. I put 6 piston calipers from a 2018+ on my car and offset wise I was fine. I ran into a diameter problem with 19” wheels. In my case, it was the design of the wheels itself that caused my issue. There are people who have done the brakes with 19” wheels but all 19” wheels, even ID wise, are not created equal. I realize you’re doing the 4 pistons and this may not exactly apply, but there is more to wheel fitment than I thought as well. Wheel manufacturing plays a part as well, whether they’re cast or forged. Definitely do your homework.
When swapping over the calipers, what bolts did you'll use to attach the caliper to the hub? Did you all reuse any of the bolts from the caliper bracket (gt) to hub?
I was poking around on Rock Auto the other day looking at brakes for 05-09 and they had a 4 piston setup that they advertise fits over 18" wheelshttps://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=11059248&cc=1432173&pt=13255&jsn=1044 https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog...1432173,brake+&+wheel+hub,big+brake+kit,13255
