My 2008 Mustang GT "Deluxe" center stack had some cigarette burns (not mine, lol - see my new owner thread from October https://www.s197forum.com/threads/new-member-from-baton-rouge.146118/ ), so I looked at replacing. During my review, I saw a post about swapping the four gauge dash with a six gauge "Premium" cluster, so I went to the local junkyard and grabbed one. Ordered a center stack surround/control replacement from eBay and for about $80, swapped both out. From what I read, the mileage was kept in the ECU, so plugging in a new dash cluster, would have no effect. Welp, not the case. My 114K car now shows 190K on the ODO. Any suggestions on how to get the odometer reading corrected?
Here are some before-and-after pics:
Yes, I pulled (the only available) premium cluster from a V6, so the redline is 5.5K (instead of 6K) and the top speed is 120MPH (instead of 140MPH), but I really don't care. The tach is accurate and the speedo is accurate, per GPS comparison. Has all the functionality (color change, Info options, etc.). I can say that one of the things I never liked about the gauge cluster was the giant red wedge for redline which always looks like a warning light, on the dash (coming from a 2003 Cobra). The V6 cluster redline wedge is smaller...which is another win.
So, what's the best way to update the ODO to reflect the actual mileage, per the ECU?
