Looking for a square wave RPM output signal on our cars for my TurboSmart Eboost2 controller. I tried tapping the coil pack wire but it doesn't seem to put out the correct signal. It produces a vert choppy erratic reading.

Contacted TurboSmart and they said I need a MSD or Autometer tach adapter.

Has anyone installed one of them before?

Here is a similar thread explaining my issue:
    http://img.modularfords.com/threads/183054-eBoost-2-Controller-RPM-Signal

Only difference is his car is an '08.

    Thanks in advance!

Maybe you could use an injector output, assuming its fully sequential and only firing a single pulse per cycle.

BTW, how are you looking last the signals? scope?

Have you considered wiring in a 100K ohm potentiometer to clean up the signal? That would be the cheapest route. I had to do this for a data logger on my motorcycle when I took a signal from the fuel injector. Shouldn't cost you any more than $10.00 (including wiring) from Radio Shack.

The eboost2 manual states that If the rpm function reading is inaccurate then installing a 2ohm or higher resistor inline could fix it.

I soldered in a 10ohm 2 watt resistor that I had laying around yesterday and it didn't change a thing.

There is a CTO in these PCMs as well, I have not tested but I would you suggest it I can point you to a pin if you want to try.

Edit, pin 10 of middle PCM connector, should be empty, that should be clean tach output that you can use for your ebc.

Sounds like a plan. I'll post up the results after I give it a try. Thanks!

Pin #10 on the middle connector of the PCM doesn't seem to be empty. Green wire with a purple stripe is there. I've read a couple threads recently that says pin #70 of the middle connector might be a rpm signal also. It's white with a purple stripe. Hmmmmmm

OK, I need to check something but I think that my mistake is that is not the middle but the bottom one, in these copper heads they switched engine and body connectors. In the meantime see if pin 10 of bottom connector is empty, and post a picture like this to check.

Don't know how different the 13 pcms are compared to the 11-12's but that may be the issue.

Pin#10 on the bottom connector is empty. Does this pic look correct?

Yes, that is it, that was the thing. My mistake, usually nothing to worry as rpm should bre a high impedance input on the ebc.

    Report how it goes.

Thanks for confirming this for me!

Now all I need to do is figure out what type and size of pin fits in the harness. Radio shack is going to hate me, lol.

so what did you do? Install a pin and get a good tach signal? I will be doing the same here shortly for a msd rpm window switch for my nitrous set up

    Yes.

I installed a female pin in the empty #10 pin slot of the bottom connector of the PCM. Works perfect.
