Finally got around to changing all of those stupid blend actuators. Had to add Freon to get it bowing cold again so there most likely is a leak. When it starts to get low again, I’ll dye check it for leaks. For now, just going to keep trucking’.

Still sitting on the total 6R80 swap but my wife isn’t sure if she wants to swap it now. Wish she would’ve thought this over more before I bought everything but what do you do? You start to consider TR-6060 swapping the car.

Other than that, I have a pretty significant exhaust leak so I’m considering a new set of headers and removing the 3” MBRP cat back in favor of another 2.5” system for ground clearance. Installing a DLG1 soon to monitor AFR and tie into the SCT for tuning. Switched the black dash fascia panels out for the grey, GT Premium versions. The clutch pedal lever to slave cylinder coupling snapped in front of the house and I replaced it with an aluminum one. Car shifts differently now meaning the “gritty, vague” engagement is gone and it doesn’t pop out of gear now. Suppose that meant it wasn’t fully engaging the pressure plate!

I think my defrost to panel blend actuator already failed. AC is only blowing in the floor and will only switch to defrost. Checked the harness connector and it was securely fastened. Pulled the fuses to reset the system but it didn’t help. Put my had on the actuator and tried each position on the switch. Didn’t seem to be doing anything. Has to be a defective part.

Been awhile.

Suddenly, this car became the stepchild of the fleet. Wound up parking it last September and drove my SN95 until my F-150 delivered early October.

The front tires are shot and I still need to replace the x-pipe. That is exactly where we will pick back up. I’ve acquired a Magnaflow “Tru-X” and will be ordering Pypes 2.5” exhaust pipes. I’m not totally sure what will be done for an axle back yet.

She sat for so long that the battery died.

Now, she’s nestled into the carport for a 6R80 swap and I’ll report back when I have more to speak of.

The date is set. We will be 6R80 swapping Sunday, 25-February. We will at the least have the hard install completed. I’ll button up the wiring and such later, if we don’t get to it.

Well, another crazy year is practically behind us and I am glad. Few days after the "we're 6r80 swapping the car" post, a hail storm took my roof out and screwed my F150 up too. Car got put on the back burner yet again. After that, 2024 kept happening and, for one reason or another, the car still sits idly by.

The road to hell is paved with good intention, right?

Well, we're shooting for sometime in February coming up to get the 6R80 in. The longer term plan calls for a “built Coyote” & Predator blower to replace the current DOB GT450/3V setup. That said, I’m getting my hands on a Gen 2 F150 engine Wednesday to build for it.

The goal is to build a decently strong, 11.2:1 bottom end with Mahle (or Icon) pistons, K1 rods, and all of the usual reliability upgrades. I will use Gen 1 cams/timing parts and control it with a Gen 1 Mustang ecu for the 6r80 control.

There will be more pictures available when I get them as I don't have the engine in my custody yet. It's about 4.5 hours north lol.. Should have it home by February since my work schedule is just wack for me right now. My buddy Caleb is picking through it in his spare time to inspect.

We've collectively agreed that the LH cylinder head was either rebuilt or replaced. I've never seen a factory Coyote head that has been painted but I could be wrong too.

The hex and porcelain appears to be wet with oil which, in my opinion, could be leaking plug seals in the cam covers.

The cam lobes are evenly worn and it looks like someone used a pipe wrench to turn them at some point. There are paint marks on the head bolts. I'm waiting to see pics of the cam tower caps and journals. Especially can't wait to see the bottom end bearings and such.

It's a $500 engine, lol!! I'm not expecting much from it but I would like to be pleasantly surprised.

I’d want to see what the cam caps look like. I got an engine like that and the caps were toast. The engine I bought suffered a catastrophic failure, I hope you fair much better than I did!

Regardless, you have at least $500 in other parts there and could use the heads as cores if you needed to purchase new ones like I did. That is $500 right there. I don’t think it is a bad buy either way really.

A few of the LH intake cam tower caps pulled to check wear:

Not the best but not the worst. Exhaust and the RH side shortly. I wish it were as clean as the Coyote in my SN95:

It did have 22k miles tho..

I really wish there was some sort of replaceable bearing for the cams to ride on rather than the head itself. I don’t know a lot about engine building, but a sacrificial wear part makes sense to me rather than needing to replace heads if the cam caps get marred up. I’m sure there’s a reason why this doesn’t make sense but that’s my initial thought anyways. My heads were much worse than the wear I see in these photos. You could catch the grooves with your nail on the ones I replaced.

Like this one?

It’s apparent they changed the LH head and this cap was in the RH head. It was just that one cap that was in this shape.

There used to be offerings for bearings to go in the cam journals. I have a set of 2v heads that had bearings installed in the cam journals. I don’t know anyone doing that work anymore though

Hey Will, I forget you're here! I believe it was Sean Hyland that was doing it.
