1987. 5.0 H.O. V8. 225hp. 300ft-lbs. Add 31 years. More than double the hp and another 120 ft-lbs.

Whats the weight difference? Everyone likes to compare/discuss power numbers but if the power to weight ratio hasn't changed that much then it's a wash.
I bet it sounds wicked running through 10 gears. I'm no auto fanboy by any means, but that definitely gets my attention.
600 pounds give or take.
C&D says 3100-3200 lbs for an '87 GT hatchback. 14 lbs for every hp at 3150lbs. For arguments sake let's say the 2018 is the same weight as the 2017. 3705lbs. The '18 will have 8.05 lbs for every hp.
Or let's turn that around and see that we have 0.071 hp/lb in the '87 vs 0.124 hp/lb in the '18.
The difference in power is enormous even if the weight is a few hundred pounds heavier.
To have equal power to weight ratios the '18 would need to have 263hp or weigh 6440lbs.
