Ok guys, let me start off by saying that feedback is welcome, but please read the entire post first--please. After reading the entire post, if you are in, please post that you are. If you are not, but could be if something was changed, post up your feedback.
First, I will say that I tried to get Beech Bend--but their schedule is already full for 2012. However, on 2/1/2013, we will be able to call the track and secure a date for the 2nd S197 get together---if this first one is a success. Beech Bend is actually very reasonable with regards to there rates, and its a fantastic facility, which also makes it very popular.
So with that being said, we wanted to get a track in the same geographical area as Beech Bend. What also limited our choices is that we are pre-paying the deposit to get a hard date on the schedule--because we tried to get people to sign up last time to raise money for the deposit, but since there was no hard date, no one signed up.
Also--the first attempt had the sign up fee at $100, which is pretty expensive for an event that didn't even have a firm date yet.
So this is what I am proposing and some basic info for this event, which will include 6 classes to race, a car show, and a dyno competition.
1) Date: Saturday, Oct 13th, 2012
2) US 43 Dragway: 29 Dooley Road, Ethridge, TN 38456
2) Entry Fee: $50 for race, $10 spectator, $20 car show. Cancellations will be allowed up to 45 days before the event. Refunds will also be given if a total rainout (racing does not begin).
3) Dyno competition: $50 for 3 runs.
4) Track will allow camping. The track may have a Oct12th Friday TNT. The thought would be anyone could show up early for this, run some TNT, then stay and either camp at the track Friday night or stay at one of 3 hotels that are 10 minutes away from the track.
5) Hotels: Richland Inn: 931-762-0061 America Best Value Inn: 931-231-8069 Villa Inn: 931-762-4448
6) Track does have race gas for sale and nitrous refills for sale on site.
7) IHRA track, and track is flexible on et requirements to a point. I can clarify your set up with track tech before the date to make sure you would pass tech if there are concerns about your set up / ET.
Race Classes:
All classes are HEADS UP as this get together is also about bragging rights. This is what I am thinking:
1) 3V N/A
2) 3V single power adder (twin turbo treated as single power adder)
3) 4V N/A
4) 4V single power adder (twin turbo treated as single power adder)
5) Outlaw, anything goes as long as it is a S197, ford powered, non-tube chassis.
6) TNT / Grudge lane. Run for fun. Pick out someone to open up a can of whoop ass. Its up to you.
Dyno competition: Open to suggestions on how to format this. Like the classes above in the race? Something else?
Car show: need help here. I don't know shit about car shows. Any volunteers?
About the track:
Ok here is where I know some of you will lose interest, but hear me out. This track is only 1/8th mile. However, it is one of the fastest 1/8th mile tracks around with the track record 3.66 at over 200 mph. Track owner preps the entire 660 feet. Yes, thats right, they prep the entire 660 feet vs the typical TNT prep to the 60 foot mark if your lucky. As you can see from the pictures below, the shutdown is very long, bleachers to 330 ft, its surrounded by trees, pits are paved, and the tower looks like a house. Anyway its a great facility, and most importantly, I can cover the entire deposit which gives us the ability to give you a hard date right now.
If this event is successful then the 2nd one will definitely be at a larger facility like Beech Bend.
Some pictures:
^^^^look at the length of that shut down, plenty of room for 200 mph cars in the 1/8th.
^^^^the tower looks like a house, bleachers for 330 feet.
