I'll be in need of replacement tires for the stock Pirelli's. Is there such a thing as having too much tire for a certain power level? I ask because I'm staying N/A for the foreseable future and have been eyeing either 275's all-around or 255's/285's. I have the following power mods:
JBA Shorty Headers
MRT Catted H-Pipe
C&L Racer Intake w/Brenspeed Tune

I personally would go the 255/285 route. I like taller tires in the back usually, like a 295/45, but with your limited mods and stock gear ratio, I think a 28 tall may be a little to much (for racing anyway). What do you want out of the car? Corner carver? 1/4? Just everyday grocery getter?

I agree with Paul... depends on the use. But in general, I like tall tires on the street and for NA cars, shorter tires on the track.

Thanks for the quick replies. My '05 GT is a daily driver/corner carver. I have the basic suspension mods (springs, shocks, anti-roll bars, etc.). So, the 255/285 route is the way to go?

What rim are you using? if you are using a factory 18" I would not go wider than 255 if you are interested in handing and performance. Guys out there have gone bigger. But if you are carving corners the best tire for the 18x8.5"s are a 255 or even a really good 235 like a mich ps2.

I'll be getting either 18x9's or 18x9 in the front and 18x10 in the back, gotta decide what size tires to get first (275's all-around or 255/285). I like the idea of 275's simply to be able to rotate and maximize tire life. However, the 255/285 looks great and keeps the ride height basically the same. Not sure which to choose.

I have 275/45 18 on 18x9 bullet rims on all 4 for Corner carving / street use (this allows me to rotate the tires for longevity) and a set of 17 inch rims with Drag Radials for the 1320 /660 track I enjoy both so I am setting up my car for both.

That's a good approach for a multi-use car.
