Following a pickup on I-94 - lots of traffic and we were out of the construction zone. None of the cars up ahead swerved, hit brakes, or anything. Suddenly, out from under the pick up, an orange traffic cone laying smack in the middle of my lane about 3 car lengths ahead - and too much traffic and no shoulder to avoid it.

Broke the lower grille in a couple of places, tore the splash plate or whatever it is called off at the front. It was dragging under the car folded back. Looks like some scrapes in the paint on the bumper so may need some refinishing or just buff it out if I'm lucky. The lower grille was hanging by just one clip when I was able to pull over and it just lifted right out.

Anyone know what the plate is called that goes from the bumper back to the engine? There are two, one is attached right below the engine and you drop that to drain the oil, this is the front one.

Anyone have a GT/CS lower grille for sale? Rather than my stock MCA in grey I'd like to get the black GT/CS.

I hate when people are driving trucks and can go over shit that I can't. Yesterday a truck went over a water cooler lid and of course I didn't see it and hit with with my passenger side tire and it hit my rocker panel all the way until I hit it with the rear tire and hit my exhaust, lucky for me nothing bad happened but I was still pissed. Wish I could help you out with the grill but I only have the stock grill for our year model

Tried finding a picture of "Autocross, you are doing it wrong" with a car and the big traffic cones... I couldn't find it.

Sorry to hear about your "loss". I've had the front grill on my 09 get popped out, sorta, by a cone, well, by a driver who intentionally hit the cone in my car "because he wanted to" and no permanent damage, it just popped out.

Stopped by my friend's shop today (he has my new hood that needs to be test fitted already). So had him check it out - his trained eye of course spotted some things that I couldn't see until he pointed them out. The chin spoiler is bent, sagging in the middle with a couple of creases in it - probably wouldn't be noticed but now that he pointed it out I can see it every time I look at the car. There is a bend in the bumper/fascia as well, small dent (which I thought I could see when I took the pictures, probably because a flash hit it right) and the paint shows evidence of being stretched. So more damage than I thought; he will take the car in on 9/23 to fix everything and do the new hood while it is there.

damn that really sucks.

i had to run over a tire tread the other day. had nowhere to go so i had to go right over the top of it. i accelerated and luckily i raised the chin spoiler enough to clear it.
then i went home and finally installed my skid pan.

Sorry to hear this Jim. Hopefully she'll be back to good as new very soon.

If someone would have done that in my car, I would have been forced to intentioanlly hit them in the kidney "because I wanted to"

Damn that sucks. At least you can upgrade now lol. What are your plans?

I had pretty much the same shit happen to me as well. Driving to work Saturday morning on US1. Truck in front of me goes right over a coconut in my lane, nothing I can do as I had a median on my left and a car on my right :( destroyed my RTR lip. Yes all from a coconut lol, damn Miami.

I"m going to replace the RTR chin and have it painted, and go with the Roush lower grille in black. I'm not sure if the bumper will need to be replaced yet, and won't know until Carl takes a look with the adjuster on 9/23. He is also going to fit and paint my new hood (too bad that the cone didn't jump up and hit the hood too while it was doing damage).

Photoshop of the new look other than the Roush lower

The hood is from Revelare Designs, nice little cowl and it also uses the GT hood vents. Since mine is a V6 I had to buy some of the hood vents.

I am dropping it off on Monday to have the suspension checked though. It started vibrating after the cone incident, and I noticed that it pulls to the left now. So maybe the cone knocked a weight off one of the wheels, but not sure why it is pulling to the left.

Stopped by Carl's Custom Concepts today to check on the progress on the Mustang. Got there in time to see the test fitting of the new hood. Carl decided on the repairs from the orange cone incident to paint the front bumper and not just repair the damaged area - getting rid of the stone chips I picked up. The plan is to put the car in the Team Detroit Racing display for Autorama in February so he is trying to get the paint ready for that (and since I won't be driving it as much we should be able to protect the paint better).

We talked about how to finish the underside and Carl is planning to do a similar treatment on the underside to match up to the top with the black and red theme continuing underneath.

(that's Carl on the left)

He's picking up the new chin spoiler tomorrow so he can get started on that too.

Carl said "if only it had jumped up and hit the hood we'd be all set" It was funny the original bumper was painted twice at Ford. When he sanded it down it revealed two layers, both red. He said it was pretty common, they paint it but then find something that doesn't pass inspection and redo the job.

It's from a new company, Revelare Designs. It uses the stock GT vents, as well as the cowl.

The hood is delayed but the damage is fixed. Carl painted the new chin spoiler and I like it a LOT better. The Roush lower grille looks better than the stock one too.

The hood we have is one of the first and essentially a prototype production piece. We asked the fiberglass guy to make up a new one and start again on prepping next week when the new one arrives.
