Yesterday was the first time out with my 2012 Auto GT with about 1300 miles on it. Last time I made a pass in a car was over 30 years ago. Bone stock, no tune, stock PZeros in 235/50/18. Milan Dragway (Milan, Michigan), Track prep seemed pretty good. Using the Drag Times calculator I was showing the DA at 1,868 ft.

My best was 13.09 at 108. Made six runs as follows (in order); 13.51,13.22, 13.09, 13.16, 13.16, 13.13. Little to no tire spin (3:15 gear). Very first run I left from an idle and the car did not respond well at all. After that I left at about 1,000 rpm and it seemed to work better. 60ft times ranged from 2.00 to 2.04. Trap speeds from 107.92 to 108.68.

Time sheet from the best run below. I know the RT leaves something to be desired. Regular racers really gave me a starting line education last night.

Heat up the tires, the Pirellis respond well to a light smokey burnout.

Leave at 1800-1900 (just before tire spin).

The best stock '11 auto time I have seen is 12.37, but that was in really good air.

Seems about the average. I ran a 12.80 @ 111. Last fall with the DA was 1800. I am sure the DA was higher. Congrats on getting to the track.

Sounds about right. Mine stock ran a best of 12.9@111 in 700' DA. You are turning off tc right?

What would be the optimal tire pressure? I was running about 29 psi in the back.

That should work. You dont want to run it too low on street tires. If your getting no tire spin then you are doing it right.

With the DA that high your right on the money. You got a lot of runs, must not have been too crowded. What do they charge to race there? As a member of the club at my track I pay $58 a nite, nonmembers pay $85.

The Wednesday test and tune is $25, crew is $10. Not crowded at all. I could have made 50 runs if I wanted too.

Thought I should provide an update, as I have been to the track a couple of times since I first posted. Back in June I purchased a Livernois custom tune for the car. That put me at 359.96 hp and 360.89 lbs of torque on their dyno. The real benefit of the tune seems to be the reprogramming of the transmission. The shifts are much harder they occur at about 7,000 rpm. Only other change was a K&N drop in filter.

June 24 at Milan Dragway (Michigan), density altitude was 1335 ft. Wheel spin, especially at the 1-2 shift was a real issue. Best run was a 12.894 at 109.78. Runs were; 12.96/109, 12.95/109, 12.98/108, 12.90/109, 12.89/109. Aborted a couple of runs due to wheel spin.

Yesterday, November 3 at Milan the density altitude was 820 ft. Done nothing new to the car except drive it. Now has about 7,000 miles on it. Everything else the same. Track prep seemed to be excellent as traction was good with very little wheel spin. Best run was a 12.680 at 111.60. I would attribute the improvement to the good air, good traction and I am leaving the line more consistently (2,000 rpm). Runs were; 12.689/111, 12.680/111, 12.77/111, 12.74/111. (Can't explain the date on the ET slip. Looks like someone didn't reset the clock.)

Very nice, mid 12's with just a tune. If you don't have to worry with emissions testing an off road X pipe would be good for a couple more tenths in the quarter.

Update

Another update as I am trying some new things and wanted to share the info. I have started to use Racer IQ to log and compare runs so I have even more numbers to digest.

A trip out to the track in May of this year was not a lot of fun due to lack of traction. A 12.85 at 109 was my best of 10 runs that day. DA was 2100 ft. Comparing corrected ETs however the corrected 12.85 from this May (12.537) actually nearly equals the corrected 12.68 (12.532) from last November. No changes in the car since the last time out in November.

In June I strapped on a set of drag radials (M&H 275/45/18). I had some drama with the wheel width and the M&Hs and that is detailed here should you want read about it.

http://www.s197forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=86356

Made 6 runs that day with a best of 12.75 at 110 (12.75/110, 12.80/109, 12.79/110, 12.81/109, 12.81/109, 12/84/110). DA was about 2200 ft. The 12.75 corrects to a 12.42, which makes it my fastest “corrected” time by a tenth.

Traction not an issue as the tires did their job. Again please note the date and times are not right on the time slips. Don’t know why.

Just got the car back from Livernois after a gear change (3.15 to a 3.77) C&L Cold Air and a revised custom dyno tune. Picked up about 18 hp. Looking forward to getting back out to the track to see how the changes work.

Again thanks to everyone here (and in the tire forum) for their help and opinions.

Great thread with nice updates. What psi are you running on those DRs? I run 30 on mine. With the stock convertor you may be able to raise yours and pick up some more time and MPH. Anything under 30 psi and it slows me down.
