Toyo Proxes R888 tires, 265/30/19 & 295/30/19 installed W/Pics.

Afternoon gang,

1st I want to say thanks to those on S197 that Posted on the other Thread about these tires.
Like, (Seer) as an example. :thanks1:

I got the call yesterday from Paul at Discount Tire Store the Toyos were in.

So jumped in Mustang and headed to tire store which is like 15-minutes from my house.

Got there and they went to work immediately.
And for what it is worth it is time consuming to Remove old tires & Install those New Toyo R888 tires.
Took like a couple of hrs.
Probably took more time than usual because Paul was like Super Careful not to Damage the TPMS sensors or my Wheels.

Happy to report No-Damage to anything.

I think most people prefer to see Pics. of things rather than just simple words on a screen.

I narrowed down the Pics. to the one's below.
I tried to think of the different things another person might wish to see.
So, there are a lot of Pics. at different angles so you can see what the New Toyo R888 tires look like.

These are mounted on Ford Racing Boss Race wheels, 19x9" front & 19x10" rear.
The finish on the wheels is Gloss Black.

It is unfortunate but many of the Pics. had to be taken as it got dark outside.
Same for here at the House.
Overcast with No-Sun so the Pics are certainly not perfect but better than nothing.

I'm not going to add comments for each Pic.
If you have a question on any I'll then comment further.

Be sure you check the, (Production-Date).
These tires were Manufactured on, {14-Week of 2012}

This is Paul & his 2012 GT Premimum Mustang.
He loaded up my take-off tires and followed me Home with them.
(Not many guys that would do that)

Rear tires, (Not sticking outside of fenderwell)

When I ran the size comparisons with what you had or with the factory 18 sizes it comes up pretty short on the diameter. Thinking 35's might have worked better. Those are definitely some nice looking tires though. Time to lower that thing.

those are awesome and pricey tires. they will make a huge difference in lap times at your local track events.

There are No-Choices other than what I have in the 19".
But, yes I agree.
My preference would have been in the, 35-Series.
Oh well ......

Tiger, Looking at your wheel-arches, I would agree that the car might look better Lowered.
But I know it's already down a bit, and those ground level photos from the rear look like there's not much more Room until you might start to scrape something.....like maybe the trans pan.

I really like the look of those tires!

Great looking tires. They are def. geared towards 18 and smaller for sizes, I don't think they'll work on my saleen wheels.

Ron,

No can lower anymore than it is now.
To many components under the machine to lower further.

The 30 series tires were a consideration with Tire to Wheel-Arch but it is what it is.

I'm thinking the Performance of the Tires will make up for the wheel-Arch look.

I think I can live with it as it is not all that bad really.
Not like a Pick-Up Truck ... :thud:

I really like the tires but as being discussed it would have been my preference if they came in the 35-series aspect ratio but they don't.

Just one of those things one has to make a decision on if the tires are more important than tire to fender clearance.

Sometimes one just can't have things just the way we want them.
This is one of those times IMO.

1st test drive with the, Toyo Proxes R888 tires today ...

Hi,

Well the Sun is out and the temperature for this time of year is in the Mid-50's.

So I decided to take the "tigermachine" out and see just how the New Toyo R888 tires felt.

I have been asked on multiple Internet Mustang Sites to report back after driving with them.

As always I think pictures add a lot to a discussion.
So I took some to show what I was doing today while out driving.
I'll Post those Pictures below after I complete my driving observations and opinions on the tires.

There may be many of you that already know some or all of what I am going to say.

Be nice as there are others that don't know so this is obviously more for those looking for information before they Purchase.

(1) On smooth surface roads/interstates all is A-OK.

(2) However if you drive over any sort of a Raised Surface like (Bridge) etc. on the road.
You will instantly know why these are called, Low Profile Tires, (30-Series).
Any sort of irregular or raised surface you will instantly feel it and hear it.
I do mean anything that is not smooth.
I don't think I would be running these if I lived up North like where the Roads are, (CRAP).
You better live and drive for the most part where the streets, roads as well as interstates are smooth.
I don't exaggerate I'm just Fore-Warning those that don't already know this.

(3) I drove at speeds of up to 75 MPH with cruise set.
The ride was perfect and No-Jarring, Bumping, Noise, Pulling of any sort.
They just rode Super Smooth and as I said I did not HEAR any Noise from them at all.
This was on a 4-Lane interstate with a mostly smooth surface other than the occasional bridge.
I could ride with these for sure if the road surface was smooth for the most part.

(4) A Rating of 100 for Tread-Softness/Wear Factor.
These tires even with it being here today in the mid 50's pick up everything.
Any small pebbles, stones, sand, etc.
You will hear it all getting thrown up under the fenders and body for sure.
These would Not be a good choice for, (Un-Finished) {Gravel-Dirt-Surface) street/roads.
There tires are for ONLY Paved Hwy. Surfaces, Period !!!

(5) I cannot report at all on how they do as in Traction abilities from a, (Stand-Still) take-off.
Just did not choose to go there as they have No-Mileage on them yet.
I only drove it from Discount Tire to my house and that is like maybe 6-miles.
I'm going to take the time to break these in before going Crazy with them on Take-Offs.

(6) I think that is all I have to report on them other than this last thing.
I had Continental DW Extreme tires in, 255/40/19 & 285/35/19 sizes.
These are, 265/30/19's & 295/30/19's.
So it was necessary to take my SCT Tuner and adjust the RPM, (Revolutions Per Mile).
This might not be of interest to some of you but for others it will be.
Another, (Benefit) of these tires other than the obvious, (Traction & Looks) is this.
Because I was running the 35-Series and these are 30-Series I have Lowered my Rear-End-Gearing-Ratio.
I have changed my gearing from the 4.10's I had to now the 3.73 gearing.
I did that for dropping the RPM out on the road at speeds with the New TCI Super Street Fighter Tranny.
It has different gearing in OD, (Over-Drive) than my 5-Speed Manual did.
So the 3.73 gearing got my RPM down some with the 3.73 gearing at 70-75 MPH on the road.
I would have liked a little more gear but the 3.73's worked okay.
With the 30-Series Toyo's I went from, 775 RPM @ 70 MPH to 810 RPM @ 70 MPH.
RPM in this case stands for, (Revolutions-Per-Mile)
So as you can see these tires have helped me with Lowering my Rear-End-Gearing-Ratio.
Just another Positive in my case for running the Toyo R888 tires.

Thanks for the update Terry. I think even a 35 is way too short and will make the ride very uncomfortable, especially with a stiff race suspension most of us have. Sure would love an update on traction which is about the only reason most people would spend the money for these tires. Although as I mentioned in the other thread, the sizes seem to be a deal breaker for me.

One is very limited on sizes for sure. :tdown:

I think I can live with these though for now.

I agree that traction sure is one of the main concerns with these tires.
Just have not gotten to that point with these yet.
At 50 degrees outside and it probably going to continually get colder.
Winter is on the way so I doubt there will be a lot of chance for testing traction.

I had a buyer for my take-off tires so I made the decision to go a head and get the Toyo's.

I'll Post when I do race it at a drag strip for sure.
And I will have something to judge that on as I have driven/raced it with the Continental DW's many times now.

My opinion is it is going to go quicker for the 60' time and 1/4 mile.

We shall see .......
