why are the gains with hot rod cams so inconsistent?

Think these cars are stock 300hp stock at the fly, if you make over 300hp at the wheel, then you are making good power at flywheel? I am installing frpp hotrods tomorrow I hope to god I gain something, I don't see how you can't gain anything, the intake and exhaust valves are staying open longer and the are opening more? Even with no tune I don't see how you cant pick up 5 hp?? I figure with a good tuner such as bbr, you should pick up decent hp. I am only running a Mac axle back jlt2 cai, the frpp hot rods, and the 93 oct custom tune, I hope I pick up something. I would hope if I put it on a dyno it would be in the 310-320rwhp area??

I picked up 30 hp/3 tq with the HR cams and Kooks LT's with a catted H pipe; this was also on an automatic with 410 gears.

I assume your question was for NA cars because as mentioned before the HR cams are not optimal for FI.

I picked up 3 mph at the track but lost torque with my detroit rockers. Cams need longtubes to reach their potential IMO.

I picked up a smile that is permanent. Even a plastic surgeon can't remove it from my face.

I hope you are not setting yourself up for a disappointment; Luke (LAllison20) had the BBR stg 1 cams, BBK LT's and the FRPP intake and picked up 5 hp....on the dyno with a dyno tune.

Well....not being an ass, just passing on what I saw.....

Do you already have CMDP's? Luke did, that may contributed to the low gains.

What gears do you have and are you an auto/manual? He had 410's which also lead to lower dyno numbers.

4.10's and i do have cmdp's. I made 306/313 on a mustang dyno with 4.10's, cmdps, jlt 110mm cai, udp, or-h, and a 87 octane torq tune. Who knows?

I made 341whp with UD pulleys, Hot Rods, LT headers, and a Bama Tune. Would have liked to see #'s with a BBR tune before I got the supercharger though...

If you are going with that theory shouldn't be same day, same mods and same tuner?

Yes eliminate variables. Same car, same dyno same tuner. Put hot rods in, run the numbers, then mother thumpers, then Detroit rockers. See what happens.

Wow...while in theory that makes sense and I agree but that would cost a lot of money for 3 cam swaps, 3 tunes and 3 dyno sessions....maybe one day MM&FF or 5.0 will do a cam shootout.

True, if someone would fund it, they could use my car as the mule lol. I do think these s197 computer/ecu are very complicated and only a good tuner can truely unlock it's secrets.

True, just want to see a 3v cam shoot out. The 5.0 has alot of deserved hype, but these little 4.6 3v are still good.I like my 3v just fine.

None of those 3 would do well with a s/c.....and I would think if they were to do a shootout a NA car would be what they would want.
