CAI install and tune question

Hey guys. I just bought a JLT CAI, O/R X pipe and sct tuner with Lund tune.
I will be installing the CAI myself but since the x pipe is a whore to do on jackstands I decided to drive it over the the local exhaust shop to have it installed.

My question is can I install the CAI at home and drive it about 30 miles to the shop without a tune or can it be dangerous for the motor and not worth risking?

I would install the CAI and load the tune before heading over to get the exhaust done. That would be a better option than installing the JLT CAI and running the car without being tuned.

What Grabber Blue said, the CAI is potentially more dangerous than an O/R X-pipe without a tune

Drove mine 1000 miles with cats on and O2s off...still alive.

Or you can go get the x-pipe, then go home and do the intake and tune. The only thing the tune does for the o/r pipe is turn off the O2 sensors, which are only there to make sure the cats are working. The only thing you don't want to do is run the intake without the tune.

Well what does that have to do with anything? Of course nothing would go wrong with your cats on while your rear o2's were turned off.

Well, thats kinda what this thread is about...I was just proving the point.

Install you CAI and tune, drive to the shop, get the off road X installed, then I would just reflash the car again...done.

Not sure where you live, but most exhaust shops around here won't touch an "offroad" exhaust or remove your cats.

True story. $10,000 fine in NJ. I only run mine at the track of course.

I put my front end up on ramps and only hit my head once : ) Took about an hour, but had all the right tools.

Why would he need to reflash the tune if it's already been installed the first time?

You don't.

BTW - Do yourself a favor and just run the stock airbox. Sell the CAI and use the funds to improve traction. You will be much happier unless you are running the CAI for looks/sound.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I am, however speaking from personal experience. The stock airbox will be more beneficial to a DD mustang (or any car for that matter) as it provides pressure whereas the ol tube on stick has none/little/creates a vaccum effect - depending on the design when driving under partial throttle conditions. A well designed stock box should create an environment for the air inside the box to be immediately available with gusto in relation to the TB.
Anywho, that's how I understand it. Stock airbox always gave me more torque in the lower rpm range when driving partial throttle.
