I didn't have a shudder issue on the street with the Steeda LCA with poly bushings and raised ball joint. On the road courses with slicks, bad shudder. After Ford Racing EPAS rack install no shudder anywhere with any tire. My car is an '11.

That's odd. Steve, on my car the shudder is very bad on the street, so much so I wouldn't dare take it on track. Still haven't ordered a rack yet as my car is still in the body shop (should have sent it to your team, lol). 11/brembo here

yay, my problems just got worse. i am now hearing grinding noise when steering at low speeds, and actually binds after hitting full lock (ie. steering wheel won't come back to center on it's own). i am wondering if all this shaking and vibrating has messed something up. it only happens after everything has warmed up and after the first shake of the day.

and of course i'm still short on $ to replace the rack... gotta sell the remainder of my autocross gear. good times... sigh.

Holy long threads batman!!

Ok so, I'll chime in as an owner of a bone stock(except for mufflers) 2011 GT. None of the suspension components have ever been touched on my car outside of making sure they still exist during oil changes and I have had this problem since the day I brought the car home. I mentioned it to my dealership during every oil change while it was under warranty and I got the 2 standard responses: "We can't duplicate your problem" or "Yup, it's doing it, but Ford doesn't recognize the existence of the problem so you're SOL". These are always followed by "the cashier has your keys, see you in 5,000 miles" as I climb back in my otherwise brilliant car and wobble on down the road. I even went so far as to have the service manager ride with me to prove the problem and ask for his help: again I was told that I was Sh*t outta luck if I expected them to do anything about it.

I have nearly 60,000 miles now and the car has been reliable and without a hiccup in every way, except for the steering shudder and some minor gripes getting used to the MT82. I tried having the dealership look at it again recently, since I had a different customer service agent handling my car, but was greeted the next day with a phone call telling me it would be $90 for them to even think about it now. I politely declined and again, picked up my wobbly car and drove off.

Perhaps someday I will have a spare thousand bucks lying around and will get a new rack, but those chances are pretty slim. Until then I'll enjoy my car and shake my head at how pathetic it is that a company can allow such a thing to go on every time I get that familiar and under hard braking, terrifying steering wheel shudder. Steering and transmission; what a place to cut corners....

No bushing changes at all?

wow... you sure drive a lot 0_0

i was wondering if you had gone to different ford dealers to get a diagnosis, or has it been the same one all this time?

i wanted to go to another dealer, but this most recent one is the second dealer i've been to since new. the rest of the other local dealerships don't have a good reputation and the remaining decent one is a 2 hr drive for me.

i've finally sold of my track wheels/tires but i'm still a few hun short. with the grinding noise i heaer now when steering makes me think i have to decide soon whether to bill the remaining difference on my maxed out credit card :(

No changes of any kind to the car except for Roush A/B mufflers, this problam has nothing to do with any aftermarket mods; they are likely just magnifying the issue so the owners are noticing it. I noticed the shudder the very first time I put the car in Sport Mode and it is instantly there when you change modes. It does it in all modes, but it is barely perceptable in Normal or Traction Control Off modes; MUCH more so in Sport or AdvanceTrac Off.

I have only ever taken the car to one dealer and have contemplated going to another but just haven't had the time; I'm usually in my long commute!

I can recommend better Maryland dealers to you. However, if the dealership acknowledged the problem and then said "tough luck," the next thing you should have done was call Ford Corporate.

I can try that route, thanks guys. Would Apple ford be any better? They are probably the next closest to me, I normally deal with Koons Annapolis.

Whoever will acknowledge you have a issue and is willing to help out is better than your previous dealer. Why you didn't try a different dealer in the first place is beyond me.

so... over on mustangforums.com, where i am subscribed to another thread about this problem, someone from ford customer service canada (the canadian equivalent of deysha from ford customer service usa), joined the thread, asked me for my vin, and messaged me to go back to the original dealer and make another appointment and my case will be escalated. a Customer Care Specialist is to contact me soon.

should i go through with this? i did not leave on a happy note the last time i was there and don't need anymore drama. the internet here already has said that Ford "unoffically" knows there is a problem with the 2011 and won't do anything about it, so would i be just wasting my time?

Yes, you should go through with it even if you have "history" with that dealer.

Most warranty claims that get denied at the dealer level are done because the dealer doesn't think they can get reimbursed by the manufacturer for the repair.

If the manufacturer has cleared the way for the claim/repair, or given the dealer the info on how to make the repair, and it's under warranty, then it should be smooth sailing.

guys,

is it true that there is no warranty on ford racing parts, unless it's found defective before install? with my bad luck i am paranoid about everything now... the last thing i need are two paperweights.

Ben, Jason is right. Follow through, but don't be afraid to let the Ford rep know that you were unhappy with your dealer. That shouldn't go undocumented.

There are no warranties on the EPAS steering racks. Most Ford Racing parts do not have warranties, but this is also considered an electrical part.
With that being said, I wouldn't worry too much about it.
