I know quite a few people go back and forth on who should tune there car as well as the why behind it. There was an opportunity to do a side-by-side of two of the big names and I wanted to share my experience thus far. We will have more information to post with numbers (track this Friday if the weather is cooperative and a dyno soon as well).

I was propositioned by ALex to give Bama V2 tunes a try free of charge to see how I liked them even though everyone was telling me to go AED or VMP on the forums. I went to VMP's website and submitted my tune request and payment on 04/04/15; after that Justin said he might be able to get the tune out that day which was great news. We exchanged a few emails back and forth about the situation and my desires for the tune. Granted I am only a bolt-on car (JLT, Roush AB, and now the tune) but I still wanted it to be dialed in for what I use the car for. After that I started communicating with ALex as well because we discussed running the Bama tune vs. VMP and Justin was willing to throw my car on the dyno as well to see how they do (of course give both the opportunity to data log and revise). So on 04/10/15 I received a confirmation that my order has been placed with Bama and on Saturday I sent my tune request in. The following Monday (4/13/15) I received an email explaining that my tune was complete...I was thinking man that was fast. This is just to attest to the experience I have had with both companies and they're support of the product. The review of the actual tunes will be coming but for now I would like to share my experiences with both. We always have to take into consideration the size of AM vs VMP and circumstances that may prevent a speedy response. I do feel like over 5 business days is excessive for my simple tune requirements. I will report back when I get the tune from VMP and give my input on how the tune performs vs AM. As it stands right now my car is hauling ass on the 93 performance tune. I have 285/40/ZR18 Nitto NT555 and I can roll into the throttle second gear and lose traction around 4,500-5,000RPM (with 3.31 gears). So far Bama has really impressed me with the turn around time and the interaction I've had with several employees.

I am extremely impressed with the nature of my car and the drive-ability is outstanding with this V2 tune. Will be doing some datalogs later tonight as well as picking up some injectors for e85. Looking forward to getting the tune from VMP to share my impressions as well.

Looking forward to the results.
Receiving free tunes is kind of bullshit though, on what grounds are they sending free tunes out? just because someone said something, was it a dare?

I'm a tune for life member, but I just don't get that shit and I've heard this more than once.

I have tunes for life from Bama as well, pretty sure I deleted that email. I bought my SCT X3 back in the bamachips days! I wonder if Doug is still alive, in jail, who knows who does the tuning over there anymore...

I'm probably buying HPtuners soon so that I can finally dive in and learn this stuff, I'm tired of not knowing what's going on, not being able to properly interpret datalogs, etc.. Lito has been the best/fastest/most eager to share knowledge. Justin gives you what you need but always seems stretched paper thin.

Beats me man. I posted in a thread on SVTP and contacted ALex about the offer no one took him up on. There was talk about Bama sucks and if you want a good tune don't go through them so he "threw the gloves on" and put the tune up to see how someone liked it...without hesitation I hopped on-board.

Thanks for posting that as it was a good thread to help put things into perspective. There are always two sides to the story and the truth is somewhere in-between. I really am looking forward to VMP's tune because I hear they're great. I ran a 12.9 @ 110 bone stock with tires and I look forward to seeing what I trap on the performance and then the race tune.

I think Bama is fine for minor bolt-ons but then again I'm not so sure... I have a friend who is on his 4th-5th tune from Bama and they can't seem to get it right. Just a simple bolt-on 3V, has all kinds of drive ability issues.

I always wondered how different can two of the same cars be, I never had an issue with their tunes in any area besides idle. Maybe different strategy codes do different things?

Same here. I read about people with repeated issues...could user error play into consideration or just a bad tune? Wouldn't it be wise to just wipe the slate clean with a new file and retry vs refining the bad file?

I wouldn't be willing to put my life or life of my wife on the line to test free tunes and hope that they finally figured it out. Ran Bama tunes for almost 6 months as they tried to get my car to shift properly. After having my wife come home crying that she was almost killed by a semi because car wouldn't accelerate and just kept shifting to neutral I got a refund and will never go back. Daily it would misshift and hit false neutrals. Next tuner, never a single issue. Runs great. Gained power, no more knock, and shifts perfect.

Maybe they are decent for manual cars where they don't have to deal with shifting, but they could not get my 2012 to shift properly and it wasn't even safe to drive.

I have to agree with this. Who is to say the "free" tune is getting the same attention a normal "paying" customer is getting? The freebee might be a top priority to get the good word out.... I'm sure some folks here with problem child ECU's could put the V2 issue to rest quick fast in a hurry... Hey James (jewc75), call up bama lol...

My turn around time was 1 business day so I can't speak for any other experiences. I use AM for most of my parts purchases so I have always had an active account. We are trying to get my VMP tune so I can see if there are any noticeable differences. I am only a tune and intake car so I figured it would be a quick thing for VMP but I am coming up on 2 weeks waiting tomorrow. Anxious to see the differences within the logs on how the tuners send out base files.

Keep us updated on how your VMP tune is going - you might have to send Justin an email or give VMP a call.

Any monkey can toon a car to WOT. That isn't what people pay a tuner for. They pay a tuner for reliability of a modified car. So your shit idles on the street, starts when you turn the key, doesn't chug unnecessary fuel, reads the correct mph on your speedo, won't blow up when summer temps hit cuz it's got so much fuckin spark in it you could classify your engine as a 3v nuclear fuckin fusion reactor.

If Bama couldn't toon a stock car with a cold air, they shouldn't even offer free toons, they should be paying people to run that shit. We have 2 cars in tech right now throwing codes and all fucked up running on bama-cola. They are 3v's with a set of cams each, one has a intake mani as well. I ROFL because as soon as it's not stock, and something beyond a stock tune profile is needed, all of a sudden the head scratching starts.

If you can't find a reputable dyno tuner in your area and you need to remote tune, order some Lito-octane. You get exactly WTF you pay for. Bama tooning a stock car to show off their tooning skillz, that's rich (pun). Give them some cams to toon, maybe throw some spray behind it. Let us know what year they figure it out.

Docktour Z, I have not been able to find your order via your email alias (what is your real name) and you did not know the order # when you contacted me. Please contact me via email with complete information [email protected]

I remember reading your cam posts when you picked up the hotrods, thought for sure once you cammed the car it would join the ranks of head scratching and chasing codes, but you had good results. I suppose I could turn down the flame a notch, but I still feel Bama doesn't uphold consistency. I don't hate on them enough to compile a statistic of them vs other tuners. But I don't care to see them get much praise when they've left plenty of customers high and dry with tune issues and wasted money troubleshooting their tune issues.

I'm glad you had success with them, I wouldn't wish car woes on anyone.
