Has anyone ever worked on a Hurst short-throw shifter?

Mine is making noise and vibrating under 60%+ load. I put the stock unit back in for now, but it is waaayyyy to long of a throw.

I am going to pull it apart Thursday. I am hoping to lube and adjust the play out of it, but I have never cracked one open before.

Any input is much appreciated...

Well, I figured out what's wrong. For those who want to know...

The bottom of the shift rod is splined with a cap on the end of it. The cap is tapped with a pin through it to stop it from comming of the shift lever. The cap is the coupler that the linkage connects to.

It seems that the lever is wearing out and the cap was loose. Seems it was enough to vibrate but the pin stopped it from falling off.

I took the cap off, put a brass collor between the lever and the cap and hammered it down. Now all I need is to have someone tack it into place for me before I bolt it back in...
