Mason Dixon Dragway, Boonsboro, MD. Test N Tune
Two weeks ago I couldn't break 12.40 for the life of me, and went to Woodbine Motorsports to have JJ fatten up the torque curve between 4500 and 5200rpm.
Met up with JJ and Bill Tumas for a day of Test and Tune. Just as I thought, VERY light turnout with the Mother's Day activities. Other than a couple of imports dragging water onto the track, the prep was pretty good.
We raced from 12pm to 3:15. DA started out around -28ft and ended up around -125ft. Humidity was just a bit high, around 71%, but the temp never went above 57 degrees.
My biggest problem after reviewing everyone's comments is shifting. The 1-2 is horribly slow due to difficulty getting it in gear, and the same, sometimes, with the 2-3. But, over time, I started whittling away. For the record, I kept my QA1 shocks at setting 5 from soft (both sides), and the ET Streets at 15psi, with the skinnies at 40psi.
I'll post the two best slips in a bit, but here's the summary 6 runs in 3 hours:
1. 12.275 at 110, 1.630 60ft
2. 12.326 at 110, 1.666 60ft
3. 12.326 at 108, 1.604 60ft
4. 12.191 at 110, 1.598 60ft
5. 12.191 at 111, 1.588 60ft
6. 12.212 at 110, 1.622 60ft
Lots more in this car. The 60s are fine but I've got to nail the shifting. I'm calling MGW to talk about the notchiness (apparently the new model has a revised part that is supposed to fix that), and starting to look for a new stock clutch/flywheel combo at an good price.
So 11s didn't happen today, but knowing I'm pretty close is good enough for today's outing.
