whats the main differences in the two converters? I am reading that the 2013 and 2014 Autos have a different part number and it's half the cost of a 2011-2012 converter

I noticed the part/price difference a while back too. Strangely many of the parts for these cars are cheaper when it is the newer part. Early 2011 is almost always the highest, like O2 sensors that are about double the price, yet the newer part works fine in those cars. I've put the same circle D converters in 11 and 13 models, so fitment is the same, and the stock converters don't seem to act any different either.

2013-14 torque converters are not the same as the 2011-12 converters. If you are not drag racing your car you will not notice the difference. Unfortunately, if you are drag racing your 2013-14 Mustang the converters are several tenth's slower than the 2011-12. It looks like changing over to a Circle D converter is the only answer for us. Local (2011-12) guys with the same mods as I have are running very low 12's to high 11's. My best 1/4 mile time is 12.38 with a 1.94 sixty foot time. We are all running GT 5.0 automatics.

That's interesting.

ford thought that the revised tune was too much for the average person to handle...the answer = change the converter!

I had no trouble getting mid 1.8 sixties out of a 2013 with a stock converter, no different than I got from 11-12 cars.

Yeah I don't know....my friend Todd has a 2014 with similar mods to my 2011 with the exception of his offroad x pipe to my factory one, and at the same track on the same day we ran within .03 of each other, both with the same 1.90 60-foot. We both have M/T ET Street Radials, and mine are 26.0" vs his which are 27.4" so if anything I have a gearing advantage and I think his would have been quicker with my tires.

I was going to post our experience too. Kris and I dynoed within 5hp of each other and like he said ran within .03 all day. I believe our 60's were the same but his .03 advantage was gained by the 330' mark, which seems like his tire height gave the advantage.

If there is a difference in converters it can't be worth more than .05-.10.

This is what i have seen, Not saying its the gospel but what testing i have done. These are just bolt on cars with DR's, Off roads and CAI.

In my opinion the converters are different, Ford changed who manufactured the converters for the 13 MY. Out of about 15 or so 13+ auto's i have done not seen one go faster then a 1.87 (my own car in really good air) and that was just once. ALL the 11-12's go very low 1.8s with ease and i have seen some even go high 1.7s in good air. These are test done the same nights, same tracks. Also these cars dyno between 5-7hp of each other.

I am interested to see what some DRs would do for my 60ft. I am only getting 2.0s on my stock pirellis in my 2013 A6. I am leaving at idle too, not sure if that hurts it much.

Same here... I've cut several 2.05's and that's the best, car has NO mod's.

took my 2013 to the track today and it seems to cut almost the same 60's as my 2011 did. tghe 11 wasa getting 2.03-2.06 60's and the 13 is cutting 2.11-2.15 60's my 11 ran a best of 12.74 on a 50 degree day at 109 and my 13 ran a best of 13.15 @109 today and it was high 80's and 70% humidity.

Ran my new '14 GT Automatic last Friday for the first time (600 miles on the odometer). Canned 91 octane SCT "strategy" tune and 28" tall M&H drag radials - absolutely bone stock otherwise. Made 11 passes and every one of them had 60' times in the 2.0's. It was hot & humid with DA's in the 1000' to 1700' range above sea level. Managed to run a best of 12.79 @ 111+ despite the weather.

The stock converter sucks, so I just ordered a Circle D 4500 rpm stall converter. Looking to match or better the 1.65 to 1.75 60' times I had in my Vortech supercharged '07 GT automatic. My '07 had a 4800 rpm stall converter and launched well; can't wait to get the converter in my '14 !!!

I'm really curious to see what the converter does for it with such few mod's.
