Still trying to reach 500 (SAE) RWHP with my Saleen S/C’d 05 GT w/automatic trans. daily driver on 93-octane pump gas. Since my last trip to the dyno (445 RWHP) the following performance mods have been made:
  • FRPP 39# injectors - replaced with S/D 60# injectors
  • 90mm Lightning MAF - replaced with GMS BA2400 MAF
  • 3.2" pulley (12 psi) - replaced with 3.0" pulley (14 psi)
  • FRPP shorty headers - replaced with Kooks long tube headers
  • Magnaflow Catted X-Pipe - replaced with Kooks off road X-Pipe
  • GMS coils - replaced with MSD coils - replaced with OEM coils
  • FRPP “Stinger” Axle back Exhaust
The following non-performance mods have been made as well:
  • JDM auto transmission catch can
  • JDM intercooler relay kit w/switch
  • Canton coolant reservoir
  • Canton P/S reservoir
  • SOS Dash Gauge Pod – replaced CDC Dash Gauge Pod
  • FRPP Black Powdercoated Valve/Cam Covers
  • Silver Metallic GT 500 Lemans Stripes
  • BMR Rear Sway bar Billet Aluminum End Links
  • PCV Delete
The one mod I have not yet made is to install an aluminum one-piece 3.5” drive shaft. I am aware of several options currently available, but I’m still not convinced the vibration issue has been completely resolved with the automatic cars yet. I’m also looking for a direct bolt-in piece that doesn’t require a pinion flange change or spacer to be installed. None of the current offerings, that I’m aware of, meet those two requirements.

I have an appointment with Justin @ VMP Tuning on Thursday to custom dyno tune for my new mods. Good or bad I will post the results.

FWIW, I have been using a Powerhouse DS for about 18 months, and it has 24,000+ miles on it, plus over 600 runs. I've never had any issues whatsoever. I bought it in early 2006, before there were as many choices available, and it cost $700, but I have never regretted buying it.

I spoke to Mike @ Powerhouse and his driveshaft is a 4" shaft. My vehicle is lowered and most likely not 4" shaft friendly. There are 2 manufacturers currently designing a 3.5" shaft - BMR & DSS.

Cold day in FL?? Please, anything below 80* is a cold front.

Interesting... I wouldn't have expected that 1/4" more radius would make that big of a deal. Do you know of anyone with a lowered car having clearance problems with the PH?

Not personally. However, I have seen several threads and even some pictures of a 4" shaft with a groove worn almost completely through the 4" shaft due to the parking brake cable bracket hitting the shaft.

Here's some pictures:

PH makes great stuff and they stand behind it, so please don't take this as a vendor bash, just the facts Ma'am...

I have a PH 4" shaft to connect my TR6060 to an 8.8 rear. When I first put it in the car was pretty low (1.5+ drop in the rear with adjustables). I had a little grind disease after my first trip to the track.

It turns out it was rubbing on some of the corrosion coating that had congealed at the rear of the transmission tunnel. Fortunately it was only cosmetic. I took a razor to the lump of coating and raised the car up 1/4 inch and it went away, but it really is that close back there...

None taken... I just don't recall ever reading about a lowered car with an auto trans having issues with a PH DS. Of course, that doesn't mean it hasn't happened... I just don't recall any. And I'm not a spokesman or salesmodel for Powerhouse. I'm just reporting that I've been very happy with the product. And even when my car was experiencing a hard squat on the launch at the track, it never rubbed anything. Hell, the fender rubbed the tire, but the DS never touched. haha

I have well over 500 and soon to be at 600ish once i'm tuned for the meth.

Gonna have to step up your mods.

internals (stroker or forged)
injectors
fuel pump
better blower....maybe

Thats just acouple things you will need to do. Their is so much $$$ into my motor alone besides the vortech so i can reach 522rwhp

I have had the PH 4" driveshaft for over a year and 10,000 miles. My car is lowered with the eibach pro kit, and I have never had any issues with rubbing.

UMM I don't think so. JDM already has been well over 600 RWHP with just a 3.0 pully. Not even overdriven crank yet. Plus once the Ported blower hits the streets I think 850 is easy!

I'm running the Powerhouse 4" shaft and I'm lowered with Steeda Sport Springs. I have not had a single issue with the shaft rubbing anywhere.
I'm also running the BMR driveshaft loop on it again with no issues.
I feel it is the best driveshaft to use because you do not need to touch the pinion nut on the differential.

Having banged my head on the parking brake a few times (whilst pulling transmission more often than I fill the gas tank this past year), I have looked at it quite a bit...

I imagine part of the issue here in addition to the degreee of lowering amount of squat etc... there may be two other issues which cause some to have more trouble than others with DS grinding:

1. pan-hard alignment. You go left or right off center, you lose clearance in the tunnel and from the PB assembly

2. variance on the PB assembly itself... it is not exactly a precision part, so I can imagine it might be exactly in the same place in every car...

That is not necessairly true. 500 is easily reachable with a Saleen blower. Hell, I have been running over 500 for quite a while and doing it with a 3.4" pulley, stock internals, pump gas, and 17* of timing. He might need a different tuner maybe. But a new blower? No.

As for you saying he needs injectors. The first line of his mod change was changing out 39lb injectors for 60lb injectors. Hell, just exactly how large of an injector are you suggesting he use for 500hp?

i'm running 60's. had nothing but problems with 39's.

And I said that about the saleen blower is because everyone i knew with that blower has hated it. besides this site, who worships saleen and JDM, no one talks about it. (I AM NOT TALKING SMACK ABOUT ANYONE)

and over 500 with stoc internals is a ticking time bomb. Its not like these are termi motors. Its just a 3v. nothing special

Really, I have not found one yet? Whats to hate, makes tons of power, has instant throttle response, has WAAAAAAAAAY less heat soak then the Whipple/KB.

Mine is an automatic car with a Spydershaft. No problems with vibration at all. I'm also pushing near 500 hp.

  • [*]FRPP 39# injectors - replaced with S/D 60# injectors
[*]90mm Lightning MAF - replaced with GMS BA2400 MAF
    [*]3.2" pulley (12 psi) - replaced with 3.0" pulley (14 psi)
[*]FRPP shorty headers - replaced with Kooks long tube headers
[*]Magnaflow Catted X-Pipe - replaced with Kooks off road X-Pipe
[*]GMS coils - replaced with MSD coils - replaced with OEM coils
    [*]FRPP “Stinger” Axle back Exhaust
This should be the major component to get you over 500 hp. The damn thing can breathe now.
