A/C compressor

Hi, my A/C compressor has gone on my 2005 S197 - I've been quoted £500 from the local garage to ship one in- can I get it re- conditioned - someone suggested that refrigerator engineers could do it?? Has anyone out there had to sort this problem? Thanks

Generally for that age there will only be re-manufactured units.
