I learned a long time ago if you're pulling like that to drape a towel or something over the middle of the rope/cable. I remember hearing of a guy in a pickup pulling something with a cable attached to the hitch. The cable snapped and came through the rear window, decapitating the driver. That story made an impression on me. I do a lot of rigging with rope and cable, you always have to plan for unexpected failure.
