Best Budget Wheels for Corner Carving

I've been looking to replace my 2015 GT Performance Pack staggered wheels with a 19X10 or 19X9.5 squared setup. The bad news is I can't spend $350-500 per wheel doing it. I had the SVE Drift's on my 2013 GT and they seemed to be OK but the paint chipped easily and the center caps faded poorly. I'm considering so far the AMR 19X10's or maybe trying to find a deal on TSW Nurburgring's in 19X9.5 since they are around 5 pounds lighter than the AMR's and a whopping 10 pounds lighter than the OEM wheels. Are there any other's I should consider in the sub $300 per rim arena? I'll probably run 275-285's squared for the life of the car, should I be shooting for 19X10 only or will 9.5 be fine?

Thanks in advance.

What kind of track use?

I've run AMR 18x10 for autox and a few track day type events. I'm not sure I'd trust them as a dedicated track wheel if you frequent road courses. A few here and there they should be OK.

Finish on the AMRs seem good for a cheap wheel. Then again, I have SVE Drifts too and they are fine. I like the Drifts better, but hate the small lug holes.

A 275 is fine on a 9.5". I'd highly suggest a 10", at the least, for a 285. A 285 will fit a 9.5" but will budge a little and you'll loose some contact patch... Almost might as well stick to a 275 at that point.

On the heavy S197 or heavier S550 you can never have too much wheel or tire width. The main thing holding this car back on track is the wheels/tires... the OEM rubber on the PP cars isn't terrible, but it is narrow. I'd go with AT LEAST a 10" wide wheel at both ends, if not 11".

We've been supplying 19x10s, 18x10s and 18x11s for the S550 already. The fitments are NOT the same as the S197, so if you are just going to use an S197 wheel on the S550 prepare for it to rub.

We have tested all of the S197 wheels we keep around (18x10, 18x11F, 18x11R, 18x12F, 18x12R) and almost none of the S197 fitments work on the 2015. If there's already a cheap/heavy wheel out for the S550 I would be highly skeptical of them fitting inside the fenders or not rubbing the strut without spacers.

And "inexpensive" is relative. The 18x11 Forgestar CF5 that's going on the Dusold car (shown above) we tested with is $360 each. The same sized/type wheel from HRE or CCW (or many others) is $800-1200 each...

I called your office Terry and talked to one of the guys and he was very helpful. He said fitment in the 19" wheels are not all tested yet. I do like the F14's in 19x10, have you had anyone test fit those yet? They're a little higher priced than I'd like but it may be worth saving for.

Can you post up pics of that car with the CF5's when you're done?

We do have the 19x10" offsets now - our engineer is in training all week (for our new CNC machines) but he has the data. We should have some of the sets we've ordered arriving soon and I'll post up pics on an S550 when they arrive. The 19" wheels are more costly than the 18", but you can get the proper height tires in 19 vs 18. There are better "track oriented" tire choices in 18" but they are all shorter than stock and will look a little bizarre on a stock height car - without some lowering.

Sounds excellent. I'll be sticking with 19's because like you said they look a little better and the 19" tire selection has come a long way.

That looks like an 18x11 with 295/35/18 Rivals

Yep... we already have sets of the 18x11 CF5s on order for S550s.

We tried to make a 12" wide wheel fit the rear. Pulled one off my 2011 with a 335/30/18. Not a chance up front and still too many places needed to be modified out back. It might happen under stock fenders with a 315mm tire on a 12" wheel, but it would need a lot of stuff moved around. If it were my car I'd make it happen...

Having looked under a PP S550 and taken reference pictures, it would seem that in order to fit a 10" wheel up front, properly, you'd need something around a 33mm-38mm offset from the hub/mounting pad. To little offset and you might begin to stick out of the wheel well. Too much offset and you might get to close to the strut body or spring mounting pad (tire size and wheel diameter dependent). On a S197, you can do a 10" with a 36mm-44mm offset.

Those are my estimates based off dealing with wheel fitment on cars and what I have seen on the S550. Vorshlag has the direct, hands on trials.

Will the BFG Rival 295/35/18 work well on my ten inch rim? Or will the road course handling be better with a 285?
Starting to think about next seasons tires. Don't want to do the NT01 this time.

Here's what that size BFG Rivals look like on D Force 10" rims. I've been really happy with them, but can't say I've compared with the 11" rims

I know Jongbloed is working on some stuff right now.

May want to hit up Ryan there and see what he's got. I know his wheels are quite affordable.

I have a bunch of guys (customers) out on tracks beating the snot out of his wheels.

We are going to run a set of HRE and CCW wheels on our '15 PP.

Thanks for the pics. My wheels are the F14 18x10. 42 offset. Looks like the 295 BFG is the one unless some new tires pop up in the spring that are better.

I'd pick a 285 RS3 for a 10" wheel.

Seems that 285 would fit the rim better but I would be giving up a half inch of tire width. The BFG sure has good press.

My season won't start till late April or early May. Hope all the new tires and sizes are announced and available well before that timeframe.

RIP - You will be missed
You don't get the full benefit of that extra half inch of tire until you support it with another half inch of wheel width. In terms of cornering response/steering crispness/precision, you may actually give up a little (by leaving a little more flexibility in the sidewall shape, which is always there between you and the contact patches).
