So my new GT is black and I can not for the life of me find a good way of drying it after I wash it that avoids water spots. I use a chamois (spelling?) but it doesn't work out well. I have plenty of coats of wax on it (I'm a Zaino freak) so the water usually beads off nicely, but sometimes it doesn't.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I've never had a black car, so I'm not 100% in the loop on maintaining the paint. Most of my cars have been red and have been pretty easy to take care of, especially with a million coats of Zaino on them.

Thanks! :popcorneat:

I worked at a detail / custom car shop when I was in high school so here is the best way I have found to do it.

1. NEVER BUY A BLACK CAR!!!!!

Okay just kidding...squeege the car first...then the absorber car chamois is a great first step after that...but if you want no water spots you will need to also get a Genuine leather chamois...they are expensive for what you get, but this will take car of your water spots.

Also with black...(along with any dark color car)...you will eventually get spider-webbing in the paint...a good polish will take this away between waxings.

i was about to say get a genuine leather chamios.
i got a meduim sized one.
i also make sure to soak the car with cool water to make sure the paint is cool to the touch then pull in the garage to dry. avoids water spots if you cant dry fast enough.

I use a microfiber towel to get most of the water off..Then a dry microfiber towel for the rest..i can dry it in about 5-8 minutes...

Use the Mr Clean Auto dry system after ya wash.

Then for the extra measure use a leaf blower to finish off the water drying.
Works like a charm.
Neighbors think your screwy but who cares.

Obviously, try not to wash it directly under the sun or after the car has been sitting in the sun. Make sure it's in the shade and the paint is cool.

Best way to dry, that I've found, is to first use the California Water Blade on the flatter spots, then get what you miss with a towel.

One thing that's annoying is that these cars are like sponges - they keep water everywhere - and once you drive away, chances are you'll have water coming out of every little crevasse, which causes water spots, in my experience, on the top of the rear bumper and under the rear quarter windows. I guess if you have an air compressor, you could pump it up to 80-100 pounds and use a thin nozzle to blow out that hidden water.

I detail as well and the best thing i found on any dark color car is the Absorber. I swear on my life its better then an chammy and i wouldn't touch my car with a california blade!

Once I finish with the absorber, I would hit it with detail spray(of your choice but i perfer the meguiars ultimate spray)

I have used just about everything and this is the best i think

Skeeter...have we tried Final Inspection (which I think is a 3-M product) for your detailing spray? Shit rules!

As for the blade...I use to use one as well...now I my my hand to squeege the water away. It works well and I don't worry about a small rock on the blade that I may have missed when I wipe it off between swipes. Also sometimes if you hit your car just wrong with the blade you leave a plastic mark. Granted it comes off without a mark but that first time it happens you shit your pants!

try throwing your Adborber in the washing machine....just dont have any oily rags or any silicone soaked rags in there! I have found that really makes the thing work better than when you first get them! Going over the car with a clean micro-fiber after you dry it is a good way to minimize the residual water drops as well

when I dry my car in the shade it's 100 times easier and more affective with eliminating water spots as appose to drying the car in the sun on a hot day where the car dry's itself before you finish it.
