My grandfather help start what we know now a days as Fram Filters. He is now 93 and battling alzheimer's disease. My grandmother is getting older also and she has been passing down some of there stuff to me.

bla bla blaaa check out this old azz "cartridge" I found in one of the boxes of stuff she sent home.

That's cool. Crazy to see how far technology has come in a relatively short time

What a great conversation piece. That would be on my mantle, well until my wife saw it and asked why I keep taking down pictures of her family and putting car shit on the mantle haha.

That's awesome, it probably belongs in a museum. There are a lot of artifacts of the war itself, but not a lot of the daily use items of the people back home.

Cool .. I knew that Car Production stopped during the war because they needed both the metal and the factory workers. I had no idea that they were using cardboard instead of metal for oil filters ...

??

Cardboard is still used in filters. Cut open a brand new Fram filter and check it out.

Oops, I think you're talking about the filter case itself. That is unusual.

Yeah, it's a cartridge filter so I believe it dropped into a metal cylinder. We're used to the metal housing because it is fitted externally and cardboard would obviously leak slightly....

I believe some Audi's still use a cartridge only, not self enclosed filter

Great piece of history there!.
MB's have used cartridge filters for years, still do as far as I know. I know the '86 300TD and '01 E320 did for a fact...
