Door Drains: need to read

For those of you that plan on keeping your cars for a few years....and don't want to have to change door skins due to rust:

Each door has a two drains, that are in fact quite well engineered...at least they sit lower than the rest of the door and each have a funnel of sorts to accumulate the water. Well each drain has a little black plastic cover thingy, which IMHO is just a trap for crap that falls into the door between the window and the window guide (I had a floater seed come out). I removed them and the door drains quicker and seeds/twigs/crap have a chance to fall out.

I posted this thread in the wrong spot...shouldn't it be in the "keeping it clean" sub-forum...or in the tech forum...??
