I'm looking for some good DRs to drive on in a pinch, but also offer much better traction than my NT555's. Would the Mickey T Street Radial II in 295/45/17 on some 17x10.5 Bullitts be a good setup for the S197? Those tires are about 27.2" tall, which is fairly stock height.

I currently run 17x8 stock Bullitts up front and 18x10 Bullitts in the rear with 295/45/18s. I also have an extra pair of 17x8 rims if I can find a good DR around 27" tall.

Thoughts?

Would an M&H in 275/50/17 be a better option on a 17x9 rim? They about 28" tall.

So is is better to have more sidewall on a DR or more width on the contact patch?

I see u have 4.56s, so yes the M&H, is likely a better choice

Thanks for the guidance. So the taller tires match up better with more agressive gearing?

If I can find a 28" tall DR that's wider (295/305/315) to fit on a 17x10.5 rim, is the benefit of a wider contact patch literally outweighed by the heavier rims and tires? Or should I stick with the lighter tire/wheel combo?

Last question, anyone safely running a 275/50/17 on a 17x8 rim?

you want to run the smallest tire that will get the job done

yes, the taller tire gives a better contact patch.

While not optimal a 275/50/17 on a 8" rim should work ok

Have you considered the Nitto in the DR version?

I've been using the 305/45/18 for several years at 550-600 rwhp. I've tried all the different DRs on the street and these perform the best by far.

I have run both the M&H and the M/T Street Radial II on mine as my DD summer tires and I actually like the II's better. They give me very good traction, at 600hp, on good roads. I have been caught in heavy thunderstorms with them and never had any problems driving sensibly. I have never tried the Nitto's but have always heard they were almost a straight street tire and not that good for traction.

I have 275/60-15 555R and they don't hook very good with my auto and 600hp. When I was manual they were more manageable on the street.

and you found those better for traction than MT ET SRII/M&H/NT05R/BFGs?

Haven't tried the NT05 or the M and H. I did try the others though. On the street the Nittos feel firmer, last longer and hook just as will as anything I've used. The size I run are huge! So I'm sure that helps. They usually last 6k miles or so with some very spirited driving and a burn out here and there.

They also pick up screws and nails a lot. Which is probably do to the tire compound and not the tire. So if you buy some, I go to America's tire and they order them, get the road hazard.

I find it hard to believe the 555r is better than a MT ET SR II

Nitto 555R's on the street work quite good. Can last up to 15k and work decent on wet roads. On the track the dont hook very well. MT DRs work excellent on the track but will where out fast on the street, maybe 4k and once worn down some dangerous on wet roads. I run 305/40/18 Nitto 555r DRs on the street. MT DRs 295/55/15 at the track. Best combo I have tried yet.

What Dave said, traction should be considered over tire life. Also, any DR can be dangerous on wet roads when they are worn. I've driven in some pretty heavy rain on the ET Street S/S and they did pretty good.
