Sorry you are not going to make it. I plan on doing track days in November as well. I hope you get it together and can run the event. Good luck in finishing the project. I hope to see you there.

Take care,

Bill

More progress... two days off from work, got a lot of garage time while the kids were at school..... Installed the lexan, the wing, the seat, finished up the front suspension. Alignment done, ride height set. Scaled the car, it weighs 3288 with me in it and a bit more than 1/2 tank of fuel. Front weight is 1733, rear is 1555. No exhaust so those weight won't be final, but whatever the exhaust adds will be low and centered. This is about 100lbs off my weight in May of ~3400lbs with the 4.6 3v engine, T3650 trans, wiring harnesses, stock hood, stock k-member and radiator support, stock fuel system. I still have to make a splitter, but that shouldn't be difficult, or very heavy. Pretty pleased with the results so far.. Should make VIR for her shakedown runs in two weeks!

Hunter, Your car is looking great! My car is similar, its Matt Ericksons old car, an 05' (BIW) w/ a 351W, My brother Dave (NE MUSTANG) sent a pic earlier in this thread. My engine is out right now, being rebuilt by Troy at FPS. I have a Tranzilla RR T56 from George at RS GEAR, cambered rear by Paul Fassler. I'm looking to do my first AI race and full season in Tx. Your car looks like there is no rake in it? Most people say S197's should have 1" of rake, but i've been experimenting with 1/2" and its working pretty well and thinking of trying 0, 5" at the front rocker and 5" at the back. Just asking cause your car looks pretty level. I wish they would let us have a 4" ride height, i know my car works and looks a lot better. Thanks, Mark

Glad to see you are making progress. I look forward to seeing and chatting with you at VIR in 2 weeks. I'll try to hang on to you for a couple of laps and put a video up for all your fans here. I at a big cross road on my AI decision and really looking forward to continuing our phone conversation. Keep pushing on completing the build. See you in a couple weeks.

Mark, my car is at 5" front, 5.5" rear, measured just behind the front wheel and just ahead of the rear. The tires in the pics are 265/40/18's so that'll change the ride height just a bit. I'm somewhat familiar with your car, as I spoke to Matt back early summer about the car. You still running the A47 SLA up front? Matt told me after some work he got it working pretty well, but had some problems initially. Would appreciate some feedback on it, as I was considering doing something similar initially. As it is I'll start with the strut setup...

You running the 8.8 rear, or a hybrid? I cambered the axle on my foxbody but haven't done anything with this one (yet)...

Welcome to AI, it's a blast. You'll be running with some good guys down there, Marshall, etc... Have fun, can't wait to get back out with this car next Feb.

Bill, look me up, come say hi... You won't have much problem keeping up I'm afraid, as I don't think I'll be really pushing the car hard. The tires are 07 dated, full tread crappy 888's. Mostly I'll be trying to see how the car works, testing spring combos and playing with the shock settings and roll centers... Hope the weather is decent, should be a good time.

Hunter, yes thats what i'm running 5" at the front and 5.5" rear. The rear axle is an 8.8 w/ full floating speedway axles, PAE did a great job! ($$$ through). Yes again, still have the A47 SLA, works great, i also added Penske 3-ways, ANZE Suspension converted my single's to 3-ways w/remote resevoirs and a Cortex watts link. The car is handling great, its heavy though with the 351 iron blk and the T-56, i'm well over 3,400 lbs w/me and fuel. I kind of like it heavy, cause without ABS, i probably get to run more HP & TQ than most everyone else. I did the TX Eagle cannon event last month, i didn't have a medical waiver yet so they couldn't let me race, but they let me do the TT. i had never been to ECR, but my best time was a 1:58.6, Mark Smith in a Boss 302S broke the AI track record with a 1:59. something. Marshall was right in there and David Kagan, plus a few others, i think there will be about 6 of us all fighting for wins. Its looking like it will be a very competitive class! Have a great 2013 season, i'll keep an eye on your results. Mark

There are more than a few people pulling good lateral g numbers with the Fays2 units. I am at 1.3ish with no issues (number subject to accuracy of cell phone accelerometers). Reading the reviews on Jim's page there was also a guy that spun his S197 at 90mph and the spin terminated in grass. They said (claimed? ;)) that the only damage to the Watts unit was a 10° bend in the center bolt and mentioned nothing about the axle clamps. I understand the cautious nature about mounting anything to pinned on axle tubes in these cars but it is safe enough to mount all the control arm mounting points it is safe enough to attach the massive axle clamps used by the Fays2 unit. Just my non professional and worthless opinion! ;)

I suffered a crash last year in november. I was t-boned at over 50mph, my car ended up sliding against the curb breaking the wheels and lower front ball joint on the lca, also took chunk of concrete out the sidewalk. The watts survived without an issue. No bent bolt, no sliding clamps, nothing. I regret not pulling it and keeping it for my next car. But insurance paid for it too, so I can't complain much. Just pointing it out, I would be more worried that the factory panhard bar breaks than the fays2.
