Well I had a pair of slicks on some aluminum wheels for my Lightning and right now the fronts are powder-coated black so when I ran the slicks it looked like crap having the different finish from front to back on the wheels. I think in the future I am going to get a set of front wheels for the track to match but for now I wanted the rears black. I also wanted to be able to switch back later and everything I have read says you can peel off the plasti-dip when you want to. So here is what I did:
First I had to track the stuff down. Our local "do it best" hardware store had it but only stocked red. I had them order me a can of black.
Next I cleaned the wheels
Then I taped off the tires
After that I sprayed on my first coat. This stuff is weard!! It will come out splotchy but after it sits the beads flatten into eachother like powdercoating and it leaves a smooth finish
Even tho it looks like you need to spray more to fill in the "fish eye" looking spots give it some time and most will settle and work them selves out. It will have a hammered look like this until it drys
The first wheel I did I used too much thinking I needed more to fill where the fish eye spots were. It ended up running on me but crazy enuf the runs almost disappeared as it dried.
In the end you'll have a non-permanent black coated wheel.
