Also, do I have to take the mirrors completely apart, do you guys do that, is it even necessary or are the mirrors/wiring ok to be hydrodipped?

How durable is the hydrodip on high wear items? Also how well does it do with fine engraving? I'm thinking about doing a shift knob.

Define high wear item. Its as durable as your cars paint as its clearcoated afterwards, it can be cleaned and washed as well as wax and polished. Dip will take the shape of the item. Fine items and letting can be hand painted prior to clear coating.

The shift knob is what I'm referring to. Didn't want to go that route if it would wear through in a year on a daily driver. Would it conform and show the lettering (I would prefer it to).

Havent done a knob some couldnt tell you how it would hold up over the years. But yest it would still show the letting.
