For those of you who are currently running the Roush 525 HP or 540 HP 5.0L supercharger kit on your Roush Mustang or upgraded Mustang GT you may be very interested in the Roush 575 HP upgrade kit. We took the time to do a little testing over the last couple weeks on the Roush calibrations so we thought we would share our data. We think if you currently have the Roush 540 HP package you will be very interested in the simple upgrade to the 575 HP kit. Read below to see how the 540 HP to 575 HP upgrade kit performed and how you can go way beyond that with a simple calibration change.
A little history… In 2011 Roush released the 5.0L Mustang 525 HP supercharger package. If you purchased a supercharged Roush mustang off the dealership lot or purchased a Roush supercharger for your Mustang GT it produced 525 HP. The 2012 Roush Mustangs came in at 540 supercharged horsepower. Again in early 2012 all of the aftermarket Roush supercharger kits were also rated at 540 HP. With the introduction of the Roush 2013 Mustang the body style not only changed slightly but the engine was pumped up to 575 HP. At the same time if you purchased a Roush Supercharger for your 5.0L Mustang the power was also pumped up from 540 HP to 575 HP. As of today if you purchase a standard Roush Supercharger package for your 5.0L it would be 575 HP.
The good news for all of you that have the 525 HP or 540 HP rated supercharger kit you can easily upgrade to the 575 HP kit. We dyno tested this upgrade here at www.brenspeed.com and listed the dyno graph below. The results were impressive considering this is a kit that does include a drivetrain warranty that can be handled at any Ford Dealer.
The Roush 575 HP Upgrade Kit (Pulley, Belt, Calibration)
ROUSH 540 HP KIT VS 575 HP KIT
As you can see in the graph listed above the 575 upgrade kit added over 50 rear wheel horsepower and 50 rear wheel torque in the mid range, and a gain of 23 rwhp at redline and roughly 30 rear wheel torque at the higher rpm’s. This is a nice solid gain for the price of the package (roughly $430) that includes a new supercharger pulley, belt, and computer calibration update from Roush. When the package arrives you get a new pulley and belt and a pre-labeled next day air box to send your PCM into the Roush Calibration department. Simply remove your PCM and box it up and the day they get it they send it right back to you next day air. That will put your 2011 or 2012 Mustang into the same power level as the new 2013 Roush Mustang.
So 575 HP is not enough? We get that phone call a lot so you have two options.
Option 1: This week we are testing a new Roush Phase 2 5.0L Mustang kit that includes a Roush calibration and cold air intake. This kit is rated at 625 HP. This will be available as a complete supercharger package or as an upgrade to your current 540 HP or 575 HP kit. Unlike the 540 and 575 kits this one does not include the drivetrain warranty.
Option 2: Add an easy 80+ Horsepower to your Roush 575 HP kit by adding our Brenspeed calibration loaded on an SCT programmer. Check out the graph below. This is a bone stock 2011 5.0L we installed the 575 HP package on along with our Brenspeed Roush Supercharger calibration. This car made over 80 rwhp and rwtq in the mid range and a nice 76 rwhp peak. This will make your 5.0L Mustang an absolute beast on the street.
