Hi guys I,ve recently moved to NC and now I need my car inspected. I have a 2012 mustang GT with a vmp dyno tune, pypes long tube headers with catted x-pipe and a JLT cai.
What’s the chances of my car passing the smog test or am I sh*t out of luck?

thanks

chances are good

2. Whether the rear O2 sensors are still enabled. If they've been disabled in the tune, the car may fail the smog test.

most tuners will no longer turn them off for the last 5-7 years or so.

Get an app like Torque, and see what the emission monitors are doing.
You should have 8 monitors.
You have to have 7 "complete" and 1 can be "incomplete. Thats most state's passing requirement. No check engine light or fault codes stored, 7 monitors complete = PASS
The testing station may question the CAI, LTH, and cats for CARB certification.

If you see less than 8 monitors "available" when you check them, the tune will never pass as most states cought on having less than 8 monitors, is an automatic fail.

Or just Call VMP and ask about emissions legality of the tune

I'm not familiar with NC emission requirements, however, here in PA, anything other than the stock cats will not pass the OBDII emissions test. On the other hand, I have read posts on another thread that Kooks "Green Cats" paired with LT headers did in fact pass OBDII emissions. Therefore, you may want to consider looking into the Kooks "Green Cats" if your concerned with passing emissions

Thanks for the replies, what app would you recommend and also what obd reader works with the iPhone. I had an obd ready about 6 years ago and it was useless, would never connect to my phone. I do have an sctx4 can I do anything with that?

I’m also 99% sure that VMP don’t turn off the rear o2 sensors.

thanks

X4 wont read emission readiness, just codes.
Forscan is a free pc software that can read emission readiness.
Torque app is also good if available for Iphone. Sorry, I dont do Apple products.

Google says Torque Pro works on IOS 12.1.2 and up.
You need an ELM 327 adapter of some form. WIFI, bluetooth or USB.

I use an ELM 327 Bluetooth OBD 2 scanner and have it paired to the Car Scanner app on my smartphone. It works great and shows plenty of live data.
