My son just bought an 08 350Z
It has Forged wheels that are painted

The wheels have black streaks, looks like the brake dust got in a wheels cleaner and ran

Will Clay Bar take them out?
Or any ideas on saving these wheels
Thanks

How about a pic? I'm sure a clay bar would work, but why not try a good wheel cleaner first...I use sonax full effect and have nothing but praise to say about it.

Why don't you try sandblasting them instead of repaint? It would be cheaper and easier to clean

Oops yes lol. Was just waking up when I wrote that

Thats what I thought you meant.

I have been told that you cannot powder coat forged wheels. it will make them brittle from the heat

I have not confirmed that yet or done any research on the subject

Try polishing them up before you paint. Just might be all you need. Pics would help alot.

i don't know why powdercoating would make forged wheels brittle...its essentially just paint, isn't it??? the application is just different...maybe the heat?

Ive never heard of the issue before but never really looked into it. I thought about setting up a powder coating system so I better do some research before I ruin some wheels lmao

Yes the heat is supposed to make them brittle It takes 400 degrees to bake the paint
