Not on my Mustang but this thing just came apart on me yesterday heading over the pass to the golf course.

How old is the tire?

Just over 10 years. When I bought the car I had them balanced chasing a vibration. They said that was the last time they could touch them because of the age. They had less than 20K miles on them, just old and tired. I'm going to get the other front tire swapped out tomorrow.

I don't think you can plug that.

No, but I think if I wrapped enough duct tape on it I could have made it home.

Hell, it might still hold air!

It never leaked any air. The belts and tread were just separating. I drove 3-4 miles the rest of the way to play golf. Then drove it down to the tire store in Boulder City. He couldn't find the right size tire in town so I drove it back to the course where I took it off and took it to my tire shop in Vegas. Never lost any air.

The worst thing about it I was just getting ready to order some rims and I think the new tires are going to be too wide for them. Maybe I will sell them with the rims. Anyone need a set of old school chrome Cragar SS's?

A little low on air pressure? Maybe 2 or 3 radial patches will make it hold air again. Well maybe not......

10-year-old tires?

Ever heard of "dry rot"?!

Oh, I know why it came apart. Just trying to get a month or two out of them before I get my new rims. It's just that I have been actually driving this car. It sat for many years before I got it.

I got the car running decent, even the A/C working (as well as a 40+ yr old system works). I have the front suspension pieces, waiting on the rear suspension, axle, brakes, mini tubs, frame connectors and roll cage, and then we will enter stage 2 of this particular build.

It's just a '76 Esprit. I got it because it was such a good frame and body to work with for my next project. Didn't want to spend a lot of money on a T/A, Formula or Super Duty because I'm tearing it up for a RacecaR. I was looking for a mid 70's Corvette or Camaro as a base, but people wanted too much money so I went with the less popular 2nd gen F-body model. Prolly saved $2k-$4k and got a better base to build on.

I get home last night and my wife tells me that one of my neighbors called and has a problem with his car. I called my neighbor and he said he broke a part while changing the rear shocks on his wife's Chrysler. I go over to find he's broken one of the cast aluminum trailing arms on the rear suspension by using it as the jacking point while changing the shocks. I tell him what he needs to order to get it fixed. His wife asks if the car can be driven and I said not until the part is replaced. She goes off on him about working on the cars and she's not going to let him touch her car again. I felt bad for the guy for a little bit until he tells me he should know more about vehicles since he's a mechanical engineer with a PhD. DOH!

Interesting.

"A customer brought me some pistons out of his blown sb mopar to evaluate...never seen anything quite like this! This is a pump gas, blown sb mopar with straight water injection. The pitting has me stumped...I know it's seeing detonation, but what the hell is causing the eroding all around the piston? The heads/chambers look like this too."
