3v automatic here getting 4.10s installed soon.

Id like to ask what a decent setup is for the street and once a hear trip to the strip?

How is everyones opinions on the racestar/darkstar wheels? Welds are out of my price range for the limited use.

Would just a basic 15x10 rear work well and move the relocation bar? Should I go with a larger rear wheel like a 17 for looks?

Newbie here for drag radials/wheels. I have only upgraded to aftermarket 20s before.

Opinions please guys on the racestar darkstar wheels and a drag radial that wont break the bank. These will be very limited use. I can never get lucky and find someone selling their set on here.
Thanks

Steve - Seems he may want them for the street too

Racestars are a decent budget wheel. Look over the 15" wheel sticky, bunch of options there.

Yes sir, would like to swap them on for a few summer months of fun. Im mainly asking about quality of the fit and finish, a good drag radial to match them up with without breaking the bank(looking for tire size ideas here too).

Idk, maybe just some rears would do for now.

I never had drag radials and am looking for advice.
Thanks :cheersman:

how much power does the car make?

M&H makes a nice 275/40/18 and a 275/50/17 DR, MT has good choices as well in either 17/18. They would also be good choices as you could score a 17" wheel cheap

I had a good amount of success with a 265/40/18 MT DR when I had a 06GT 5M, 4.10s, centri making 435-460 whp. Point being a 17/18" will probably suit you just fine :cheersman:

Will begin doing research on prices of tires, thanks. Im still considerng using my stock or takeoff wheels over the rear racestars. I didnt realize there wasnt more weight savings.
How wide can I go in the rear with 15s or 17s without relocating sway bar?

15x8 jeg stars on the rear with some DR's.
No need to go to 10" rims at your power level. you need a swaybar relocation kit with that as well.

If you are not planning to go with more power an 18 inch DR will work just fine at your power levels. If you are planning to run these all summer, as a separate set, I would get a set of 18 inch wheels from Race Star. They make an 18x8.5 and an 18x10.5 that are street legal and fit our cars. I wouldn't try and run a small front rim for a DD as there just isn't any protection from all the potholes and such you run into on the street. An 18x8.5 will hold up just fine and the weight saving of a smaller wheel just ins't worth it.

I have run a set of ZE Boost wheels for several years, as my summer set, in 18x9 and 18x10. They have worked out great for me and I just changed out to a set of Weld S76 wheels in 18x8 and 18x10, only because I wanted a change. If you have the storage space 2 sets of wheels, one summer and one winter, is the best way to go, IMHO.

I was at a shop today and the tech had the save 15 x 10 combo on some 275/60/15, the rear stance looked great.

He said he had the setup I was looking for in the past and it didn't work out too well for him. He had a 17 x 9.5 on 275/50/17 and the tires looked tiny.

Idk guys, I'd like to pick out some racestars while they are on that huge sale, but I don't want to make a bad choice and regret it later.
I'd rather not relocate the rear sway bar, so the 15 x10 doesn't seem viable.

Any thoughts or ideas on a wheel or drag radial?
I originally liked the MT 275/40/17 based on the price and reviews.

Car is an automatic, 4.10s, 450/394 off a centric.

I would like this drag setup to run on the streets for a month or two in the summer and possibly once a year at the drag strip an hour away.

Disposable funds are tight and I am trying to make the proper choice this first time.
Thoughts on the racestars or an affordable a good combo wheel/tire for my stock suspension?

Thanks s197.

I have 15x8 rear and 17x7 front Racestars. No sway bar relocation needed for the rear with the 8" wheels. Mickey Thompson 255/60 drag radials on the rear wheels, which work really well on my car (around 380rwhp plus a Circle D 5C 4000rpm stall) and go consistent low-1.6 60-foots on a marginally prepped track. The front tires are 215/60-17 Firetones, IIRC. I think the set of wheels and lugnuts was $850 through Beefcake Racing.

15 x 8 if you don't want to relocate the sway bar would be my suggestion as well

What about a 17x7 and 18x10.5 set up?

Was trying to go with fat rubber out back and a lighter weight wheel. I was looking at 15 or 17 rears and wimp out on the relocation. That limits my tire choices a bit.

Idk anymore, I got great advice on here, I just need more knowledge on how well the radials hook on the street.

Not happy with dumping the foose wheels for a few months to run the radials though.

Run a 15x10 and the whiteline rear bar. No relocation necessary, and easy adjustment.
